Only 21 and apparently wants out of Arsenal, he has got to be a better option than spending 80k pw on Cahill.

I know our last Polish U21 centre back didn't work out well but they can't all be bad - can they?
If he’s the lad who was on loan at the Clowns then he’s highly rated.

Sakho and Tomkins have done some pre pre season training together so hopefully that’ll help them keep injuries at bay .

The one and the same, he might have to lose the red nose and the yellow wig before signing for us though. All the Charlton supporters I know rated him higher than their ex player Konsa who we are linked with.

Would play with Sakho for me next year, better than Tomkins Kelly Dann. Sign him up if not more than 60K week.

thanks, that is good to know. Them being both fit for the start of the season will be a big boost for us. It would be so nice to get a good start to the season.

I'd stick with Tomkins & Sakho. Not sure Cahill is better than JT. Maybe 5 years ago but now...?

Tomkins is a better player than Gary Cahill at this point in time.

Better than Tomkins? Once upon a time, but not now.

This really isn't the time to be buying old players on high wages.

Always felt happy when playing Chelsea if Cahill was in their defence. I knew Wilf would have a field day!

Actually it is as the overall outlay is way less than buying an up and coming talent. Cahill for 2 years at 60k a week would be about £6m.Buying, for example a young player from the Championship would be anything north of 15m, plus wages. Assuming they would want 40-50k a week and spread out over 4 years would be about 8m a year. Not that am for this as i cant stand Cahill and don't rate him all that much.

Wouldn't be buying him which is why it is worth considering as a 3rd choice.

I'd rather spend £15m+ on a younger player from the Championship who can eventually replace Tomkins or Sakho than buy someone like Cahill who's near the end of his career.

Cahill is low risk, his wages will depend on how many offers he is getting but you know the quality you are getting for a little outlay. For a 3rd choice that is not bad.

The way I look at it is not in relation to Sakho and Tomkins but is he better than Dann if he stays and Kelly? If that is a yes then is the cost acceptable?

I am sure you would if you could, but like Palace there isn't that kind of money available to spend on an untried player.

Nobody seems to be factoring in Cahill's signing on fee which would be a fair few million

Different times but Brede Hangeland came in and did a great job with all the experience he had.
Not that I'm vouching for a move for Cahill.

That's a good parallel. Cahill could keep playing and I doubt we'd have to pay much in either signing on or wages. At his age I doubt he'd want to move home or do a lot of travelling so could have a limited number of suitors.
