At least France is consistent for their contempt of the Brits - they resisted us joining the EU before the first people’s vote in 1974.

Parliament’s inaction has led to this position. No one can reasonably claim that parliament could not have stopped her. She’s lost amendment after amendment where parliament wanted her to not do something. But parliament has not been able to get its act together to agree to force her to do anything positive at all. That’s parliament’s fault, not hers. There have been countless opportunities to stop this. Parliament has never had so much power over a government, and done precisely **** all useful with it.

So now we have the speaker acting to stop something that would have been over in a few days in any event. And that’s the key. It would have been over in a few days anyway.
You say parliament as if there is some kind of equality across the board. The tories should have shot their lame duck long ago.

MP's voting for the WA will be breaking the Law, as to make the UK a vassal state of the EU, is a criminal offense under UK Common Law.

You omit the basic fact that our parliamentary system hardly acts on a basis of consensus building unlike some European systems. Both she and parliament are to blame. Ignited by all the idiots who agreed to invoke article 50 when they did. Idiots is far too kind a descriptor.

I am nowhere near enough of an expert to fully understand parliamentary convention, but while Bercow is probably correct there is no doubt his manoeuvre is political in its nature, as opposed to constitutional.

He has game played this out, as has every other faction. How they all see it would be interesting to see, for sure they don't all see it the same.

In reality he hasn't stopped meaningful vote 3, what Bercow has done is stop meaningful vote 4.

If May can get enough numbers to support her Brexit, she will have enough votes to overturn this convention.
