Counting total playing minutes for Newcastle in the PL he has averaged a goal about every 3 1/2 games. Last season that was nearer 1 in 6.

That doesn't offer us a strike rate better than what we have and I'm expecting Edouard to stick a few more away as he settles in more.

Some comments on Chris Wood today from - To view the link you have to Register or Login

We've only kept two clean sheets this season (in normal time), and both were when this lad was up front for the other team...

He was crap to be honest, Andy Carroll would've put in a similar sort of performance, we need him to take it up a level if we are to stay up.

Didn't cover himself in glory but not his fault wholly.

One of the worst debuts i've seen. Did **** all.

With Jonjo and Longstaff in midfield the last thing we needed was another immobile lump.

Poor debut, might improve with more time here but his lack of any pace is worrying, he was running round like an oil tanker today.

He's a ******* carthorse

Lump of Wood in this set up…

Quite a few BBSers were keen on him for Palace but (and I say this as a kiwi) I have never thought so. I have been more than a little surprised at how effective he was at Burnley, he possibly has a nose for goal, but I'm not convinced by him.

I might have missed something, but I can't figure out why Newcastle fans seemed to love Benitez and hate Bruce. Their records were very similar and both seemed to play crap, defensive football (although I was hardly looking closely)

Benitez’s record skewed by a season in the Championship after failing to save them from relegation?

Someone went through the record of both in the PL with Newcastle, and Bruce did just as well. Benitez has been poor for a while.

Of course, part of it included a season in championship, that's true. I'm not doing very well here, am I?!

Taking Newcastle’s league games in the Championship out of the equation and Benitez had a win % of 33%, Bruce 28.9%. I think it was closer still before this season.

Wikipedia caveats apply.

According to transfermarkt, looking at EPL games only:

Bruce 97 games avg. 1.15 ppg
Benitez 86 games avg. 1.16 ppg

I think Bruce did spend more, but not sure how much difference that makes.

Bruce spent way more. There's also a bit of Vieira vs Hodgson, meaning that while the points may be pretty much the same, Benitez had them playing more attractive football, better goal difference etc.

Which is a damning indictment on Bruce, as Newcastle were horrible to watch under Rafa!

Benitez spent more, but was also able to generate funds from sales whereas Bruce couldn't/didn't. The question is whether Benitez left enough players to be sold to subsidise spending. Of course spending £40m Joelinton and him not performing, doesn't show you in a good light.

More money than sense. They are missing the football knowledge at the moment and if they are not careful they will end up more like Everton that than Man City
