I agree. That looked nailed on but inexplicably not given. VAR isn't going to remove the controversy or the injustices; is just going to move them around a bit.

So far VAR only seems to be used to decide offside/not offside from what I can tell.

Has it actually been used to give a penalty or reject a penalty, or booking/non-booking?

I'm talking about the FA Cup... not generally.

Grimsby's red card.

If Wilf keeps his mouth shut and plays like we know he can we won't need to rely on VAR.

This is Twatford we're talking about. Experts in committing red card offences out of sight of the ref.

It hasn't so far and we've had 3 games in FA cup with VAR. VAR won't put an end to rotational fouling. It only looks at goals for offsude penalty decisions given or missed and potential red card challenges. If all 10 outfield players foul wilf once each with niggly fouls nothing will happen. People will only say wilf hasn't dived because of VAR. We have had retrospective bans for dives for penalty awards for nearly 2 seasons. Wilf not banned but they still say he dives. He is pre judged by opposition fans and refs. Especially refs who do "research" before a game. WTF. Their job is to referee a game based on what they see not what they think they see or who is involved. All VAR will do for wilf is stop the yellows he gets for penalty dives that weren't dives.

This with bells on

Before VAR a quick glance to the lino and ref was enough to then go absolutely mental without worrying about it not being allowed

Now, the fan in the ground has no idea what is going on whilst the ref pushes his headphone into his ear, waves away players and generally faffs for about a minute or so. He then does the 'Give us a Clue' sign for Television and trots off to the touchline to review the 'incident' before making a decision.

The fan meanwhile waits.. and waits.. whilst maybe texting mates watching on telly to determine what the hell is going on.. finally a decision is made but the moment is well and truly gone and football decides to disappear up its bum

Give it a few years and the whole process will be cluttered with adverts, sorry, partners, selling their wares in the seconds / minutes it takes and before we know it we have an American Football style stop start game that is played with different rules dependant on how much money you have

And you don't think some refs don't already have an agenda? VAR will make it harder for people to have agendas. Unless they are all corrupt? They should get outside refs in to view VAR. Ones without affiliation to an English club....possibly?

We need a drone with a red card stuck on it and just fly it on when appropriate

In American football, replay reviews are used only for specific purposes... a challenge by the alleged aggrieved coach for something like whether a player made a valid catch for example. But... nothing outside the specific challenge can be overturned or changed and no other calls may be made no matter what else is seen in the replay. Is that the way this is going to be, or can the refs change anything based on what is seen anywhere on the video?

I'd rather get the occasional bad call than use VAR. I don't like it in American sports, and I'm going to hate it in the greatest game ever invented. I guess I'm somewhat of a luddite.
