But that is basically the terms you would like the UK on
I am afraid that won't happen, because someone has to pay for your utopia
And that is why we are in austerity because you really can't work it out

I'm sure all the non-interventionist voices we've heard insisting the US shouldn't be getting involved will be equally loud about this.

Reading down the ABC article Heb posted it looks like Putin wants to protect Rosneft's interests. BP own 20% by the way.

Lol, they think they are. Presumably they aren't extreme enough for you, too much of that annoying democracy among their members.

Its also idiotic to describe Blairs Labour as right wing, maybe the right wing of the Labour party but certainly not right wing. You just have to go through the things they did. Its just a sulk of the extreme left as he marginalised them during his time. Good thing too.

Given you think food banks are freebies, your judgment of what is right wing isnít up to much.

As for you supporting democracy what a joke.

There were foodbanks under Labour and if you think they'll disappear under Corbyn you are very wrong.
There are foodbanks right across Europe it has nothing to do with the tories or even austerity.

I take it you're going to show me where I've been anti-democracy. I won't hold my breath waiting.

Unsurprisingly China and Russia, who both have huge investments in venezuela, are not likely to play ball w.r.t. ending Maduro’s tyranny in Venezuela.

Food banks went up up from a tiny amount to over a million using under austerity. As said your idea of what is right wing isnít something anyone with any compassion would take any notice of.

Letís leave it there, itís boring debating with you.

I saw Richard Burgon on TV the other day claiming Chavez had introduced free education and health care to Venezuela. Astonishing. It's almost as if these people couldn't actually give a shit about the people and history of Venezuela, and instead just make up any old shit to fit their narrative.

yes and no.

Thereís no question that everyone applies some degree of realpolitik to all this, and the West certainly supports some authoritarian regimes, the GCC in particular. However in the main they donít support them because they are an authoritarian regime, which is not something you can say about China and others who irrespective of their economic interests support the existing Venezuelan regime because the rise democracy over tyranny at the behest of the west is unquestionably a threat to them.

Donít agree, I donít think most western countries care one bit, and in many cases prefer authoritarian regimes.

Democracy was forced on rulers by workers struggle, it wasnít benevolence.

Was always hoping to end up in Venezuela one day for a trip due to the 'fact' at the time decades ago - one of the early urban myths probably - that there were seven women to every man. Plus I saw Miss World 1981ish who was from Caracas model lingerie very close up indeed. Took me months to manage flaccidity again.

Whilst I can certainly see the point of view that this is a regime change attempt by the US which will ultimately lead to more of the same (the suffering of the Venezuelan people) I think the chance of change, no matter how small is enough for me to favour it being successful.

Also when you look at who is supporting the current regime you see countries with a low regard for human rights and democracy.

However lets face it, a change of regime will probably lead to roughly the same levels of persecution and torture, it will just be of different people.

That "fact" will be incorrect now as 5 of those 7 have emigrated to Chile.

Maybe a slight change of plan and visit us here?
