How about play him in his best position? Sick of Hodgson playing him out of position. Iíd leave if I were Meyer. You canít be a creative midfielder in a Hodgson team.

The one thing he seems to be able to do that a lot of others can't is play possession football. One of the few I don't worry about needlessly turning it over that often.

Pisses me off not being able to maintain possession.

Ruben Loftus Cheek and Cabaye seemed to do alright last season. Iím sure thereís been others. RLC wasnít seen as a left midfielder either but thrived there. Maybe Meyer is just not that great?

The thing is though, in modern footballers being tidy is a huge asset in itself. If you got another couple of players able to be tidy, you'd probably notice their impact increase too and we'd start keeping hold of the ball more often. Meyer can attack well when he's able to pass and move so I personally don't think he'd still be seen as having limited impact with players around him he's able to link up with.

I don't think Meyer has played particularly well for the most part either, I can still tell he's a cracking player though and in the right team (one that tries to play football) will do things.

My question is, why sign a player like Meyer if we aren't going to either play to suit his style, and more importantly why haven't we brought in players of similar technical quality if we were going to try and change the way we play a bit? I can't even really blame Hodgson for not using him correctly because we don't really have the technical quality in our squad to utilise Meyer effectively.

That's a recruitment issue.

I actually think where he was playing in today is his best position. He's not a number ten and he doesn't have the strength to play in a middle two, or a middle three for that matter.

Having said that, he's got better defensively as the season's gone on. Puts in much more tackles & interceptions than he did at first, even if he still gets muscled off the ball.

Cabaye never played left midfield.

RLC is a different player and has more physical qualities to drive forward. Itís an unfair comparison.

Good post. The question about recruitment is very valid, especially as we are apparently paying him £125k/week, which will significantly reduce any transfer value and potentially lumber us if we are relegated as there's not many clubs who will pay that.

Why do we seem to overpay our players so much? It will bite us one day.

Nonetheless quality players who imposed their quality and influence on the game.....lets hope MM can eventually do the same, but in the meantime I wont be gambling on building a team around him

What is his position?
What is the type of match that suits him?
Is he impact sub or starter?
What weather suits him?

If a player has to be played in only one position it will mean that the team has to be built around him? Does his contribution warrant that.

Maybe I am blind but I think it is the player that is the issue

He’s a good player for sure but he is imo a tad overrated. He’d probably thrive in a team like arsenal. Still i always think it’s fair to give players coming in from abroad a season to adapt to new life/league. Let’s see if he establishes himself next season.
