This is unverified but the guy seems authentic. Paints a grim picture of what the people in Wuhan are going through and the total inability / ineptitude of the Chinese government to deal with the fledgling virus, before it took real hold. If true, sounds like the people of Wuhan are trapped and left to their own devices under a social and political order that has fallen apart. The narrator is, understandably, very scared and angry.

Normally, it's Palace depressing me on a Sunday...
Wow, that was powerful stuff. I think when we heard the Chinese authorities actually making a statement that the situation is grave, you can bet it must be hundred times worse than that. They must be panicking like hell, because if what that guy is saying is true, theyíve made a massive misjudgement and let down their own people in horrific style. Could be massive upheaval on the horizon there in so many ways.

I'm not one for conspiracy theories, but seeing how advanced technology is now and how we have some fairly nutty people in charge of super powers, you do wonder if these sort of things will start to become a way to attack nations. If some horrible disease that is hard to detect is created in a lab, and can then be put in the food/water supply of an enemy nation, it seems simpler than dropping a nuke.

Don’t need be a conspiracy theorist to think that. Biological warfare has happened throughout history, and as recently as WW2, where the Japanese would drop flea bombs on China to spread the bubonic plague.

May be considered a war crime, but so are many things which the West, ‘terrorists,’ pretty much every warmongering organisation partakes in.

I realise it's early days with this Virus, although maybe not so with it's spread. It appears, thus far admittedly, that it is less deadly than the flu.

Does this mean, that the apparent panic caused by Social Media as to it's effects and dangers are actually more of a problem or issue than the actual Virus itself?

Seems like the world is going into the prelude for a meltdown over something seemingly less dangerous than your typical 1 in 10 year flu epidemic. With the real culprit being T'net.

This God bloke is rather slapdash in his punishments, you would think a geezer who could create a whole universe would use a more precise form of justice, i.e. targetting the guilty and avoiding collateral damage.

No worries, but if you want monkey sex on a football forum may I suggest you visit the Michael Jackson thread on the West Ham site, the amount of them forever blowing bubbles is quite frankly concerning

Given viruses oft spread from animal to man with previous devastating and regular non devastating consequences it seems somewhat more likely than a highly trained specialist nicking the virus and releasing it in a fish market or a special ops force placing it there.

If it were homegrown it also seems unlikely that China hadnít developed (or could not very quickly develop considering they have the source) some sort of vaccine. Therefore we have a scenario that either nature has done what nature does or a rogue government has released a virus that could cause devastation without first closing their borders. Which also seems a bit silly.

The virus seems to have graduated from bat to snake to us, an inter-species 'jump' ability which likely will cause very high adaptability intra-species, meaning very little natural immunity in the human population. It also means other animals, such as domestic dogs / cats, could become carriers / vectors. The human immune system has no antibody 'familiarity' with this pathogen and so has no idea what to do with it.

All cheery stuff. The infectiousness seems as high as N1H1 level (standard) flu and it only starts to advertise its presence in you after you've been walking around, infectious yet feeling healthy, for as long as 14 days.

And yet we aren't closing air travel to passengers recently in China. Anyone who feels despair at the minimal effort to save us from climate change should feel equally worried about this. We aren't shielding our nation properly, the virus is in France now and once it's in the U.K., especially in cities as condensed as London, it's a timebomb that will explode for months, if not years. I simply cannot understand our government's lax response to this threat and, as someone who has dismal breathing issues at the best of times, and was hospitalized three times in two weeks last year just for a nasty cold, I am truly worried. I don't know if I can afford to catch this. I would just like an explanation as to why non-UK citizens who have been around China over the last two weeks should be allowed in. To let such unnecessary risk occur is baffling to me. I fear we'll shut the stable door too late.

Due to my private fears, I've been paying close attention to multiple sources of info and trying to weed ( sorry ) out anything approaching hyperbole or cynical attention-seeking online but the overall picture is deeply worrisome. I considered going into Epidermiology thirty years ago and I know enough to recognize that this virus is sufficiently novel, contagious, virulent and with a high enough mortality rate than only young people, in the prime of respiratory health, can expect no worse than to feel very ill.

The people of Wuhan are trapped in a version of Hell and the online videos leaking out are heartbreaking and deeply concerning. I just hope the people running our country know what the hell they are doing. I don't care about the cost to trade or political aspects to banning entrance to people recently in that region; they will seem like trivial concerns if this bug gets a foothold in our cities.

Anyway, doom-mongering over. There's some videos below for anyone interested.

I can only imagine they think itís too late to contain. What with 5 million escaping the epicentre before containment and every continent already showing infections.

However (and I know little about this subject other than taking an interest) they consider it will have a similar path as swine flu. Deadly at first, travelled the world and petered out. Or they consider the mortality rate to be similar to the more common flu and therefore have made a conscious decision to let nature take its course.

Most likely there have been no conscious decisions of significance made but an acceptance that it has spread globally, is probably already in the uk and there is **** all they can do to stop it. A fingers crossed attitude that mortality remains fairly low and the health systems can cope.

I guess (and it sounds brutal) when in governance you count deaths and births and worry about population. If a global virus wipes out 1% of mostly old people, you have no cure and no way to prevent it what else do you do?

How on earth do they come to the conclusion that a virus has jumped from bat to snake to us? Or another pathway of animals to us.

I can understand how they trace back contamination to a single source when an investigation can link that common source to the first patients.

But this strain seems to have hit a random collection of people initially.
