The Running Thread
I had a bad groin about 15 months ago and it doesn't seem to go away- I tried a simple test which was can I hop on it - you know after 1 or 2!'
That was very painful for me and had no choice to see a physio - had regular sessions and had exercises to do. The sitting Buddha stretch to which elbows as close to the knees as possible is one and then has to be done after every run. Don't do that stretch until you have seen the physio if it's very painful on that test mentioned earlier. Still took about amother 6 weeks to heal. Came back faster and stronger- used swimming and cycling to keep the cardio up. Good luck to both

I have similar groin issue. Doctor told me it was Gilmore's Groin? To view the link you have to Register or Login

Although I have tight hip flexors the pain is in my groin although I wouldn't really describe it as overly painful and I can run through it with ease.

I did similar exercise to eagle mart- also walked around barefooted indoors which for some strange reason really helped

Managed 5k this morning for the first time in a while, quite pleased with that, still slow but ever improving

What you won't find out until you pick up your race number is what start time zone you are in. This is numbered 1 to 9, fastest runners in zone 1 slowest zone 9. What zone you are in is based on the predicted time you put down when you entered the ballot. |

Have you done a London before? If so, what sort of time did/are you planning on getting to your start area? I'll be coming from Croydon so think I'll get the train from East Croy to New Cross Gate and walk down to New Cross. Trains are every half hour from there so its either 845 or 915 arrival at Blackheath. Thinking 845 would be best. |

Definitely get there at least an hour before the start, I vaguely recall they were asking for baggage to get on the lorries 30mins before start at the very latest. Plus if you're going for a time you'll want to get a forward spot in your starting pen. |

5k tomorrow, first run since injured foot. Am hoping I am going to feel stronger following the 5 weeks of glute and broader strength training.
Felt very good during a tough spin class yesterday so injury permitting, I intend to run hard.

Does anyone row as a supplement to their overall training? I understand a 2k in sub 07.00 gets you in the frame for rowing clubs and am doing 7.48 at present. 07.00 seems a loooooonnggg way away!

This year will be my fourth successive year of doing London, though the first time I have done it after doing the Boston one 6 days previously. Eeek! |

When I did my first marathon in 2014, it was largely ok until I got over 10 miles & would then start to tighten up. It wasn't agony but it was uncomfortable & got worse the longer I went. I purchased one of these & it seemed to do the trick: To view the link you have to Register or Login Having used this, my groin is now largely fine - touch wood! Haven't ran with it for a couple of years & have done a few halves & a full marathon in that time. So might be worth a go.
