I see Elizabeth Warren has nosedived since she was advised to try to throw Sanders under the bus at the debates, and move away from universal healthcare. She was doing really well as a progressive.

Michael Bloomberg trying to buy the Democratic nomination is like something out of ancient Rome, he's flashing his wealth far more than Trump in 2016 (tbf hes much, much richer) and its becoming less of a vanity run and is more and more infuriating the other candidates. 188 million spent on ads with more to come, that pretty much gets him all the "don't knows" or "don't care as long as it isn't Trump" D voters and I've heard both the Sanders and Warren campaigns claiming they are all out of experienced staff as they can't compete with Bloomberg's wages.

Arguably more dangerous to their democracy than Trump, initially I thought he just wanted some promises/concessions from a candidate who he'd then endorse and bugger off but it seems he's in it for the long haul and it stems from some NYC country club feud with Trump going back years.

Funny thing is both he and Trump have switched parties when convenient. Bloomberg would be Trump mk. 2 albeit a bit more intelligible but far less amusing.

Flat out wrong GB. The Dem leaders weren't soft. They tried but they simply didn't have the numbers; within their own party they do, until the populace elects AOC et al over their corporate stooges. They now have to hope the general public will do the same in November.

The bits about his personality are on the mark imo.

Admittedly because Sanders represents a possible change in values, i've started following the presidential race a bit from afar. In spite of the whole dem and repulican apparatus against him, Sanders seems to still be popular - a rally with 20 odd thousand turned up yesterday, which is fairly impressive imo.

I did notice he is not popular at all in Florida - isn't this the place that is full of old people? Aren't old people the only ones who receive State provided healthcare? Sanders wants a state healthcare system for all and the ones vehemently against him are the ones who already receive State healthcare - isn't that a bit selfish?

Probably more significantly, you're talking about old people who probably have spent a lot on their health care and medical insurance over their lifetime which probably pisses some off.

That the idea of universal health care p*sses people off in the US, shows just how f**ked up that country has become. I'd like to think that even with the current conservative party the idea of no national health service is seen as political suicide.

Exactly the problem of modern politics, the person not the policies. F**k me Saunders would be on the more centralist side of the Labour party in the UK, he makes Corbyn look like Baader Meinhoff.

He does seem to be amazingly popular (as he was last time) with young first time voters. Which seems to go against logical thinking.

I guess the opposite of that is he is not so popular with the older generation, probably for the reason(s) you suggest. Maybe there is an underlying fear that their entitlements will be effected or watered down to accommodate everyone. I don't know. Or could it be that much like me, they just don't like him!

He represents real change, and if there is one thing old people donít like itís that.

In spite of holding a rally for 20 thousand odd yesterday it doesnít even get reported on mainstream media. I checked on CNN us politics section and the only time Sanders gets even a mention itís when others are attacking him. Bloomberg on the other hand has a story about him surging - nothing on him being as racist as Trump. Apparantly that doesnít matter anymore.

If Sanders does this, it is against all odds and the entire establishment, democrat and republican.

Rallies are utterly irrelevant, as Corbynism should have shown. And previous US elections for that matter (all the yard signs round here are for X stuff too).

All that matters is swingstates and turnout. That's how you win. Data, groundgame, turnout.

I have no doubt the Sanders campaign knows this.

A lot of them, yes. California for example is going to vote democrat. And give all of its electoral college votes to the democrats. It's important for fundraising (and for winning the democratic nomination), but in the general election there's not a lot of point the democrats putting resources in there.

Clinton won the popular vote remember. But she lost by a few votes in the key swing states.

It can help but I don't think it's enough to have someone from somewhere to win a state. They need to be from there and liked! New York hates Trump for example.

But winning the swings will be the main driver behind any VP picks I should think.

Texas could join that group sometime in the next 10 years, thanks to rising Latino numbers.
