Can guarantee we would never have even heard of husenhuttl, can also guarantee our shortlist would be something like Mark Hughes, Chris Coleman and Chris Hughton!

The following season under Hughes they finished 13th which was probably an indicator for the relegation season that followed. Only Stoke fans can explain if their relegation was solely down to the change in manager/style made five years prior to that but I think there was a lot more to it.
Stoke changing their style involved £125m+ in transfers and that was 2013-17, that would be £250m+ nowadays, we are never going to do that. Stoke have also gone down with a highly paid old squad, so whilst the style changed, the strategy seemingly didn't alter from experienced players.

This is very much our Curbishley moment in as much as we are going to make decisions and not pump the amount of ££££ in that is needed to achieve success from a change of style.

You can't polish a turd as the saying goes, but Palace being Palace will certainly give it a crack.

Adkins broke their transfer record twice and they had money to back the new manager with, which they duly did.

Hasenhuttl has spent £50m+ in 13 months! He was very close to being sacked too, but he has managed to arrest the slide.

Bruce has changed nothing defensively from what Rafa did, he has even said so himself, but has had £65m to bring in players to improve them going forward.

Pulis (sacked in November) killed them, but the offensive maverick Pardew disposed of the body for good 6 months later.

Pearson was sacked because of his Personality and off field issues.

I don't disagree with the theory a new manager can come into a club, give players a boost and change styles etc. but very few do this with little to no investement with an already older, declining squad. How many of those managers would have done what they'd done here with barely any spending? Poch? Hasenhuttl? Bruce? Ranieri (he failed at Fulham who tried to replicate the Leicester miracle)?

If the money doesn't follow a managerial appointment, we will be faced with the same decision we face now, in 12 months time.

Roy has shown what he can do with a younger, fresher, quicker squad. Give him more and he'll deliver more. Give him less and as with any manager, they will deliver less.

Their training ground just matches our stadium instead

They don't have much and Ashley is tighter than cramp, but they've still spent more than they've brought in in transfers, nett spend of £56m, with £151m spent in 3 seasons!

They spent £60m in their 1 season in the championship. £35m more than we've spent in 3 years

I'm not opposed to Roy being here for the rest of the season, but I think this recent poor run has magnified some of his shortcomings. Most noticeably his refusal to rotate the squad unless a gun is held to his head. Jairo coming in, doing well and winning POTM could have been a positive example for the rest of the squad, but instead he's quickly relegated back to the bench the minute PVA returns. Roy has complained before about a lack of competition for places, but how are regular players meant to be kept on their toes when they know that they're a constant shoe-in for a starting place? It seems like there was never any chance of Wickham surpassing Benteke in Roy's pecking order, regardless of how well Wickham played when given the chance (or how badly Tekkers played)

Roy's a good manager, obviously vastly experienced, and knows how to set up team to gain a result, which he's shown time and time again at this level with us, West Brom and Fulham. But as much of a blessing as this is, it can also be a curse due to how inflexible he is. He has his tactical system and he's unerring in sticking to it. We're on a run of form where not only are we 20th in the league for points gained, we're also dead last for chances created. Surely that is the time to mix it up a bit and try something different. We had a creative player in Camarassa who can score goals and was excellent for Cardiff last season, and he didn't get a game. We're paying Max Mayer astronomical wages and in one and a half seasons he's basically never been used in his best position, which is pretty incredible when you think about it. As already mentioned, our POTM immediately dropped on PVA's return. At this point I'd kinda just like to see a few changes to make things more interesting, win or lose.

Roy Hodgson

I do think people have a point when criticising the way Hodgson sets us up and our defensive style but I would have a chuckle if we went on to win the next four and were safe before the end of March.

Meyer has played deep midfield a bit recently, which is his position, and looked awful.

It’s the Palace way, but really difficult to see this time looking at the way we’re playing. Even Wilf is hardly a threat.

Yeah but hasn't it been a few irregular minutes here and there, off the bench when we're chasing a game?

If Meyer isn't good enough - and I think the jury is firmly still out on that - then that's a pretty terrible indictment of our scouting and transfer policy given what he's earning. A few different figures have been reported for Meyer's wages, but all of them have been high. I find it hard to believe that Roy wasn't supportive of the signing, yet basically from the start he's deployed him out of position. It seems that in order to play centrally under Roy you have to possess clogger attributes, with Max, Jairo and Camarassa being overlooked in those positions for 3 defensively minded players. It's no coincidence that we create so few chances and are devoid of creativity.

Agree. Always thought one of the attributes required for playing defensive mid is that you can defend.
