Agreed. PvA is a professional footballer earning at least 50k a week and he cannot pass the ball 10 yards to a team mate when he is unchallenged. That is unacceptable and in no way can be called anything other than 'crap'. It has been going on all season and without any competition for LB i wonder if he is just complacent.

He earns less because of his age. It is the way things are in football, although most of this report is probably bollox as they don't know what players earn.

Was Sansom ever clearly the best in his position in the world? Cole was imo.

Was certainly the best in the 1st division . Great attacking full back , we struggled to replace him and arguably were never as good a side without him . No coincidence our fall from grace occurred after he left .

Similarly to Cole, Sansom was regularly discussed as being among, if not the, best fullback in world football.

Also, Sansom was a fully developed pro for a spell of his time at Palace whereas Cole I felt was on the brink of great things during his loan period here, but subsequently flourished at Arsenal.

Assessing who's the better player is difficult as they both had such great qualities. Two of England's greatest fullbacks for sure.

Not trying to be funny or clever, but Sansom was probably the best in the world while bring an alcoholic, which begs the question how good he could have been.

Was he an alcoholic during his best years? Didn't his drinking become a problem late in his career?

Reading Vince Hilaire's autobiography it seems Kenny was having difficulties with gambling while very young, he doesn't mention drinking but the two very often do go together...although that maybe me putting 2 + 2 together and making 5 ?

Matt Doherty's agent will be hammering down the manager's door at the end of the season for a significant rise too.

We should be tying AWB down to a 5 year deal at the end of this season.

I disagree slightly, I think Cole developed very rapidly into a fine player during his one season with us and we had the pleasure of seeing the best of him. Although it could be argued that he was at a different level, I didn't see any marked improvement in his overall ability once he returned to Arsenal. I remember raving about him when he was with us to an Arsenal supporting colleague who A) had never heard of him! and B) met my assertion that he would very soon be playing for England with contempt and derision. Typical Arsenal (thinks he knows it all but actually knows nothing) I guess.

But Sansom was overall the better player IMO. The finest player to have worn the shirt during my lifetime IMO.
