What brings you to the conclusion that Palace will be forced to sell their best players who have many years left on their contracts.

The ball is firmly in Palace's court not a club wanting the players.

Who said anything about being forced to sell?

We're a small club in PL terms

Money, from big clubs, and players aspirations to achieve things, count

If they didn't no one would ever leave any club

Peter Taylor, Ian Wight, Nigel Martyn, Clinton, AJ, Matt Jansen, Wilf to name a small number

They all left for bigger/better clubs in their eyes as will many more going forward, irrespective how long they have on their contract

I wouldn't bother. No doubt when AWB leaves the tune will change and Parish will have made a great decision that is best for the future of the club.

And Wilf is just one of many, many very good wingers in their mid to late 20s. Aaron is one of the top 3 young right backs in Europe.

I think some people have a very poor grasp and understanding of football clubs and transfers. There is none (or very little) romance or perceived player loyalty. Palace, as a business, would be absolutely mental to turn down anything approaching £60m for a player. He could have a poor season next year. He could snap his ACL. There could be another young superstar on the block, which may actually drive AWBs price down.

Football is a career. Players want to leave to further their careers. Just like any member of the public might want to look around for better prospects, better pay, and a more prestigious company, so do players. If we get a good offer in, and AWB says he'd like to go, then he'll go. It's as simple as that.

The idea that players with long contracts won't go is complete nonsense. Contracts don't secure a player for that period of time. It is a means for them to get a wage for that period of time. Contract extensions don't mean a player will be with us for an increased amount of time. It's a way for the club to ensure they get a good transfer fee should an offer come in. Players are worth far more with 3 or 4 years left to run than 1 or 2.

Yep. And how many times in palaces history have we had a player who could feasibly be considered top 5-10 in his position in Europe? Sansom I assume. Probably not Wright if you look at the strikers around in the early 90s. Anyone else?

Just one of the reasons why i donít see why people are so adamant that AWB is more easily replaceable.

Because he’s a right back. We could have prime Phillip Lahm or Javier Zanetti, and they wouldn’t have as big an impact on the team as Wilf.

What is your view on a good outcome from this possible transfer? You keep making the point that we donít have to sell and that is obvious. Reports suggest we turned down a £40m offer. Iím interested to know your personal view of a price that you believe offers good value for Palace? I have a strong suspicion that if palace do sell AWB you will then trumpet it as excellent business and start making comparisons with current transfer records. While saying the opposite if the transfer doesnít happen. Whatís your position?

You might be right but i donít think you can be that emphatic. Apart from the difficulty in comparing the impact of players in two different positions there are other variable factors.

You could argue that AWB has just as much impact preventing goals (through stopping crosses, tackling opponents when through on goal) as Wilf had in an attacking sense.

Maybe you could also argue that AWB was more consistent, and I didnít see him having a pop at his own teammates. Lots of variable factors as i said.

Sorry, on what basis will he be ďworth a lot more next summer?Ē £60M would be the most expensive RB ever and most expensive English player. How on earth would we expect that to go up substantially? If he has another cracking season it may remain steady or go up minimally. But I canít see it getting much bigger. Heís a defender. Unless he adds crossing and overlapping to his game and gets 5 goals, but that seems very unlikely as itís not his style?
