In fairness, I don’t think anyone on here really believes in any of these coins for the long term and are just having fun speculating. When the tide goes out all these cryptos will get decimated.

There are definitely some on here who really believe.

Bitcoin can be mined from solar , wind, hydro. Not all electricity comes from fossil fuel.

Bitcoin mining now uses more electricity than Argentina, according to a report earlier this year.

Just think of all those advances in green energy being used not to offset current energy consumption but to mine Bitcoin.

(Ignoring the fact the majority is mined in China with its reliance on fossil fuel)

Bitcoin doesn’t care about the source of the energy. It’s a computer programme that will keep running regardless. You could create electricity from burning the corpses of orphaned children or have it from solar panels on a space station, Bitcoin would just carry on. The point is that the morals of electricity generation is a matter for governments and regulators and you can lobby them if you want that changed.

I bought some last year and my 'investment' (= gamble) is doing very well thank you.

Look - on balance I don't have much faith in any cryptocurrency. The capitalisations are frankly ridiculous, and do not stand scrutiny. Apparently the Bitcoin capital value is 600 billion U.S. dollars. A single Bitcoin may be worth what the current price suggests, but you wouldn't need to sell too many for the price to drop sharply and with it the capital value of the entire currency.

The 600 billion U.S. dollars doesn't have anything behind it, other that people willing to buy, sell and trade the things. There is no tangible thing of any worth supporting this value and no country supporting it.

Perhaps Ethereum is different. It might be - but I have yet to be wholly convinced.

Dogecoin is the future.

The future is this Saturday. Then sell. If you know, you know

It's a strange one. 80% of holders own under 1000 Dogecoin's. But they account for such a small % of coins. With a few hundred people holding a huge % and holding the majority of them. It's difficult to see what will happen. EM has said he'll mention it, but I don't think he'll do a whole sketch on it...

It doesn't matter though.
He's got a cult who will buy Doge on the premises that he "Might" say something.

He only needs to mention it and those people will go insane and you'll see it trending on Twitter.

I have 1000 Dogecoin and set mine for a cash out just below a dollar for about 50% of my coins.

For every seller there has to be a buyer. Does anybody have experience of Crypto automatic orders?

Prices do not go up point by point. They skip and jump about. As the Algo hunts liquidity and balancing. Plus you add in the spread of the broker... There are no guarantees they will be able to match that sell. You have to think where you will pass your coins over to someone else who will be willing to buy at that level.

There is a wall of 70m coins sat for sale at 0.90. and 17 million at 0.70.

It's how Gamestop kids ended up holding shares that nobody wanted to buy. It's the exact same premise here - although it should be more liquid.

I've invested in Bitcoin through work on advice of my partners but have little to zero knowledge of crypto. Plan is to just leave the investment there for the long term so not much fun and is tied to my business anyway.

However, this has now sparked my interest and I am keen to start making some (relatively small) personal investments in crypto but want to educate myself considering this is largely all Greek to me at this stage. Do any BBSers have any advice for some where to start in terms of reading material (podcasts?) to get a better insight before investing?

Currently I am getting my info from a couple of Whatsapp groups, colleagues and twitter but I don't really trust any of those sources.
