Looking like a really bad night for two party states.

Fantastic gains by Greens and Lib Dems thus far. Go Go political diversity!!

Unsurprisingly very low turnout. One area reporting 17% turnout.

Good night for Greens so far.

Tories lost 6 councils so far and Labour 2.

The message is clearly that the two mainstream parties have lost a sizeable proportion of their traditonal voters. UKIP have lost out too and have not mopped up disenfranchised Tories or Labour dissenters over Brexit. Labour have lost their remainer voters to the LibDems and the Greens, the only two anti Brexit parties, and it friggin well serves Corbyn right. The turnout according to Curtice is about the same as last time.

The PV class fights back, thankfully, including the element from the 70% of pro EU socialists like me, who still or used to support Labour, three years ago.

Well yes, but I don’t think it is just that. Whether you want Brexit or to Remain or whatever, we’ve witnessed the worst Parliament in living memory. The very few MPs who have come out of this in any kind of credit are not the ones in leadership roles of the two major political parties.

The Lib Dems are ejaculating a bit prematurely this morning. Hell, they are even praising Vince Cable, who has essentially been missing since he became leader.

Are local elections more akin to supporting the Palace ladies team but knowing however well or badly they do, it has no influence on how the team gracing the Premier league do?

I would think most UKIP voters have switched to The Brexit Party. Three weeks today will see another unprecedented shift from the norm IMO.

Labour will pay a heavier price for not demanding a confirmatory vote than "respecting' the flawed first referendum

It's an interesting barometer for wider electorate feelings, but I really don't understand why local councils have any involvement with political parties any more.

I really hope not. The current incarnations of the Tories and Labour deserve to be crushed. If that means the parties die then so be it

I hope that is the conclusion that the leadership comes to, but I fear they are in thrall to the fairies that live up Seumas Milne's arse.

Obviously my post is a little lighthearted but in reality do local elections ever give any clue whatsoever to how things pan out at a GE?

I fully endorse your sentiments re the Tories and Labour but we are creatures of habit, and I sense that people feel they can vote more freely at local and European elections but return to the tribal nature that FPTP encourages at GE's. Electoral reform is badly needed.

LibDems smashing it here in Oxfordshire - Tories taking a hammering

Collations will become the norm with LibDem (not DUP) holding the balance of power if there was a GE tomorrow - it will be interesting to see what change Uk do now
