No chance of us spending £30m on any player, especially not a GK.

Good as we really need to get in younger and hungry player this summer and get a few from championship imo just not him as not needed and should get two players for that price too. I think we’ll spend but only because we’ve sold two big players.

I'd actually be livid if we spent 30m on a keeper at the moment. So many other priorities especially if we were to lose Wilf and or AWB. Surely this is bullshit?

It must be. Unless Guaita is off?

Fair comment.

My opinion was based on what I saw last season and this and what the poster I responded to quoted, namely he is not worth more than £10-12m.

Thankfully I think and hope speculation over Butland is academic. GK is not a priority position this summer like it was for 2 and a half seasons previously.

Jack Butland is currently weighing up the probability of serious Premier League offers from Bournemouth and Crystal Palace.

Sources close to the England goalkeeper believe it will be a toss up, as things stand, between these two clubs when Butland face D-day on his future.

Unless Guaita is leaving I cannot see why would we be after him and definitely not at that price.

Would be a very surprising move to spend that much on fees and wages having waited it out for Guaita last year. He was clearly a well researched target. But land is only going to go anywhere as an automatic starter, so can’t see it with us right now.

I like him but there’s no chance we will spend £20M on him. Can see Hennessey wanting to move on especially if he knows he is second choice. Straight swap would be lovely plus a bit of cash Stokes way

I’m wondering if Begovic is leaving Bournemouth- not injured but not featured in the last couple of games.

I would be disappointed in a big way if we blew a large portion of our transfer budget on a gk.

Unless selling one of our current first team GKs released enough of a budget to cover the cost, making it effectively a zero sum game in either cash terms (unlikely if WH) or profitable in the next set of accounts (full realisation of sale proceeds, but only the amortised amount of the fee).

So selling the best gk we have had in years and buying an inferior is a good idea? Not in my book.

I dont see there being any legs to the rumour, but if there is then it can only be if Guiata has asked to go back to Spain and we are in the market for a new number one. Surely a fee of 30m for Butland is excessive and way beyond our reach? how about Begovic who has fallen out at the cherries and is still just 31yrs old but still very good, or what about Etheridge at Cardiff who has been outstanding, either of these could be bought for less than 10m i would have thought.

Even if there’s not much between them (Butland is 6’5”, commands his box and was his club’s POTY unlike Guaita), one is 32 and the other is 26. One has a couple of seasons left at the top level. The other has eight.

Couple of seasons? Rubbish, keepers play into their late 30s.
