Would have thought Liverpool and Arsenal are most at risk - both of them leveraged up to their necks, and I get the feeling that either manager is ready to walk if things start to go badly for them. Can't see United dropping out of the top 4, and Chelsea are financially pretty secure. Villa were also not far off breaking into the top 4 last season at one stage, so it's only a matter of time before someone does.

Don't this City will this season, and also don't think Hughes will be around much long after that. I would have thought they will at some point go for a bigger "name" who will.

The Emirates was built on a cash flow model that was based on Champions League football for 16 out of 20 seasons. The club had to re-structure there debt last year with an updated cash flow of 20 out of 20 seasons of Champions League football.

They still owe a massive amount for Emirates, along with struggling to sell Highbury off and the local council forcing the issue of taking away there licence unless they do the work on the local transport network as promised.

Its pretty much open knowledge in the game that they will struggle to service the interest let along the debt if they fail to make europe.

It is hypocritical. Fergie also slated Chelsea's new found wealth and their obscene spending when they first started splashing out - bit ironic coming from the bloke who spunked £30m on Rooney, £28m on Veron, £29m on Ferdinand, £30m on Berbatov, £18m on Carrick etc.

It's an old boys club and they don't want anyone else joining the gravy train or threatening their entry to the champions league - thats all it boils down to.

If Liverpool lose Alonso, which is looking likely, I think they might struggle. Any injuries to Gerrard or Torres and they are right in the ****.

How much do clubs earn from champions league football. £20 million if they win? this would include all gate receipts, tv rights, sponsorship ect. If that was the case surely the sale of ronaldo for £80 million takes the pressure of united.

It's fun watching certain bitter clubs getting nervous/excited - but clearly they don't know City!
We may have spent money but our coaches will soon teach the new boys the City way! - Predictably unpredictable and consistently inconsistent.
I'm expecting this season to be no different

Whatever success we do or don't have, I will still be CITD and just want to enjoy my football.

That said - if we can knock some of the arrogant big boys down a peg or two along the way, I will love it. Just LOVE it

very good points. im only guessing here tho, i wouldnt have thort theyd have been able to submit a model that included projecting selling certain players for a projected profit of over £30m (toure and adebayor). there is no reason to think they wont continue to do this either, fabregas would probably command £40m profit himself.

i really hope it isnt arsenal that fall behind.

if fergie stops being patronising to a team and a manager, and starts his mind games criticising policy and transfers instead then you know he is a little worried .
he is now over friendly to wenger because he doesnt consider them a threat , because they havent the cash to compete .
id love any team to break into that so called big four ,though i would rather a smaller, less well financed team who have built up a good team rather than buying big to do it ( that is an ever more romantic notion though ) but failing that city would have to do .
think the arse most likely to drop out , though as said a couple of long term key injuries at liverpool would cause them massive problems .

Agreed it's sickening cos it's Leeds, but i disagree with your point about the value of a League 1 player. I'd be far happier if lower league teams got properly paid for their players, rather than having them poached by Premiership wankers for next to nothing. It's much better to have money distributed down the footballing ladder than being kept at the top all the time.

I agree with you...IF it meant that didn't mean that as a result some Premiership team will ask for £30m for some Reserve/ First team fringe player...

Prices need to come down across the board...and teams like City who can afford to buy a player, they might not even use for £10m is ridiculous. Maybe this would all be more pallatable if it were a non-offensive League One team, a Huddersfield perhaps...

They don't, do they? I know that Spuds are asking ridiuclous money for that waster Bent, but normally the reserve players go for very little. Look at Burnley's signings for example.

We couldn't even afford to buy boots for our players at the moment, so what's going on in the market is pretty irrelevant to us unfortunately!

Again, agree cos it's Leeds (and no-one likes bloody Leeds!), but it's still refreshing to see a lower division club being compensated for someone they've developed. My hatred for the north london scum wouldn't be anywhere near as bad had we been correctly compensated for B*stock.
