That's a 180 degree turn from your previous position on eco issues. Has someone hacked your ID?

This species conservation conversation is specious.
There are millions of unidentified species in existence, some of which will become extinct without us ever knowing of them. As they are generally either microscopic or minute variations of known species we tend not to notice or care in the way we do when a big white fluffy (but fearsome) one is under threat. Bacteria just don't make good cuddly toys. Artificial preservation is as wrong as deliberate extermination. Our greatest fault is the presumption that we can control the biosphere and prolong the status quo. Last edited by Smurph; 31-01-2006 at 11:29 AM. |

If the sea comes in then can't people just move a bit inland?

Why can't we just send all the Polar Bears and Walruses to the south-pole? Guess they'd eat all the penguins.
Actually the obvious solution would be to give every person on the planet a maximum annual CO2 limit and then stop them from heating their home / filling their car / travelling / breathing / etc if they exceed their allotted limit. Of course being a socialist I believe that everyone should have the same limit. Could do wonders for 3rd world poverty!!! There are times when "the market" is not a solution to the world's problems and allowing people / companies that don't create greenhouse gasses to sell their allowances to those that do is a good example. Similarly taxing aviation fuel will not stop enough people from flying. I'm fed up reading all this crap about offsetting carbon emissions by making a donation to some ngo or other - the stuff still enters the atmosphere ffs. My girlfriend works for Greenpeace and they travel everywhere by plane!!! I've decided my next trip to to London will be by train. I spent last week in Miami, the temperature was a very pleasant 68-70 degree Fahrenheit morning noon and night and yet every bloody place we went had the air-conditioning on full blast. Went to the circus last night, the performing seals were the bollox. |

I guess that some believers would say that it is all God's will. Others would say that he has given us free will and this mess is all down to us. Certainly He's taken a pretty laissez-faire attitude since the days of the Old Testament.
I think that He's just ignoring us hoping that we'll stop with the attention seeking behaviour. I'd say that we've gone through the stroppy teenager and juvenile delinguent phases and emerged as hardened criminals. We're totally out of control now and it won't be long before we have to take care of him for good. Others would say that is pigswill. |

Florida would be greatly improved by being 6 feet under water IMO.
