Rather than guess what his wages would be or moan about him keeping younger players out of the team or talk about injury problems I will just say this.
If what I've heard is true we have already tried to bring him back, he wants to come back and at 32 he has a couple more years left in the game yet and if we can get a deal sorted that suits us and AJ then it will be a massive boost next season. Sure, he needs to stay fit and he's had is problems but if we are in the 2nd tier especially, having AJ for half the games would win us quite a few points!!

Trust in the management and board to broker the right deal for the club instead of all this endless guesswork.

Going forward, which club full stop for that matter.
That's what he must be on at QPR.

Perhaps. But QPR will be desperate to get him off the wage bill, he will be desperate to play football. Personally, I reckon he will be happy to take a drop, keep fit, play regular and return to somewhere he's loved.

All depends if he feels he needs a Freedman like wage so his family dont have to live on rice and beans for the next 30 years.

Freedman spoke with him last year but I think he felt he could get another good deal in the premier league which he did. A year injured has probably made him feel he just wants to play and who better than the club where he is adored and he played his best football.

Hope it happens!

--------------Speroni?------------
Ward---Baptiste---McCarthy-----?
--------Jedinak----Garvan--------
-------------Williams-------------
----AJ-------Murray----Dindane--

If we keep Dindane and he gets fit, sign AJ on a free possibly, sign Baptiste who is on a free, and sort out who will play left back, that is a pretty potent side for this division.

Especially when the likes of Delaney, KG, Bolasie, Phillips if he stayed would all be on the bench. It would be an improvement on this years team and would cost next to nothing in fees but possibly an increase in wages. We could get close to having 2 players for each position, all of whom could hold their own in this league.

This team needs wingers, not 3 strikers upfront

But we are talking about next seasons team. After a full pre-season and bringing in players he wants IH may have us doing different things. Being too rigid is not always a good idea.

If KP retires at.the end of the season, it's possible that AJ could take his role as impact striker.

KP won't retire as long as we offer him a contract which I think we should.

At 32 you would hope in the Championship he can be more than a bench player. It is all about how he is likely to come back from his cruciate surgery, becasue he is only worth having if he can play regularly.

People say he was just about pace, but he won't have lost that much of it.

Not only was he quick, he was an awesome finisher by the time he left us, as well as a tireless worker.

Michael Owen was also; better than AJ; and he's felt the need to call it quits. Lets just remember the many good days AJ gave us....almost 10 years ago now....and move on.

Agreed, he was terrific for us in his prime, don't spoil the good memories. We need younger hungry strikers alongside Murray, and pacy wingers.

On the other hand, say we stay in the Championship, he gets picked up by say Reading, stays fit, bangs in 30 goals for them and gets them promoted! I'd say f**k the memories, its about the here and now!!

If the deal is right we should do it. Be gutted if it doesnt work for him & us but be more gutted if the lad wants to come back to us, we say no and he goes and bangs them in for someone else.

I said impact player

I think it's fair to say that regardless of his age, he's not a player who's going to give you 50 games a season anymore.

Hence he would be the type to play selected games or start from the bench to prolong his health IMO.

Put it this way - I couldn't see him and Phillips in the same squad.
