I think some are losing sight that they are people, and in Harry’s case he didn’t choose to be a royal and all that entails.

He wants a different life, without every tiny thing he does a matter of scrutiny. They’re going to go another path, which will include financial independence, which seems a good thing to me.

Haven’t most of us felt previously that there were too many hangers-on receiving money from the Civil List, for very little return? Even the Queen is said to agree with that.

Harry has dropped so far down the line of succession that he has become a bit of a ‘spare’ part now. A popular one with the public, but I can understand why he doesn’t feel he has a clear role.

Maybe he’s seen how Andrew and Edward became rather superfluous and doesn’t want decades of that?

It’ll be interesting to see how they achieve a new path, but I think he’s right to try.

This could well be a big step towards Britain saying that, in future generations, titles such as Prince and Princess will only be granted to the direct line of inheritance and the Civil List will reflect that too.

Ofcourse they’re still going to have a life of some privilege and jobs most of us wouldn’t get, but at least it’s not sitting about on the taxpayers cash.

How can these multi millionaires be 'working to become financially independent' ? They do not need a penny of taxpayer funding and should certainly now no longer receive any funding going forward. That said, fair play to them removing themselves from the royal set up, and good luck trying to life an ordinary life.

One complex and incredibly expensive cost is their security. This can’t stop entirely, as they’ll still be royal (if only part-time), so therefore a target.

It’s not going to be possible for them to lead an ordinary life, and some paps will always be desperate for a photo of them. But maybe they hope that if they step back now, then Archie will have a better chance of living a slightly more normal life.

I think the security matter is a complex one. Harry is part of the royal family, whether he wishes to be or not, and therefore a target. His family therefore is to.

His history of being in the army possibly makes him an even bigger mark.

I’m not entirely comfortable with saying you’re on your own now and washing our hands of the consequence of that. But maybe this is what they meant be future financial independence ie they plan to cover this cost too. It’ll be millions, judging by how much the Kadashians say they spend.

With regard to Frogmore renovations, I thought that The Queen paid for that? If not, then yes the couple should have paid for it themselves.

Quite happy for this as long as they do not expect any money from the taxpayer - perhaps a small amount as a contribution towards security for a few years.

Just have a feeling it will not work out like that but lets see - I may be wrong.
