He spoke very well I thought. Said a lot of the right things and I don't think he'll wind people up as quickly as Corbyn will

Yes a measured and competent opening speech and interview. Rather than the often unattractive petulant approach by his predecessor.

Just seen the Angela Rayner interview with Andrew Neil. Good god, what are labour thinking about

Horrific

Caught some of the KS interview from earlier. Thought he spoke well.

Starmer has an opportunity at the end of the current crisis we are facing tough times. Boris like Churchill maybe the right person currently. However Attlee beat Churchill by being the right person to take the country forward after the war.. If Starmer can position him and the Labour Party in the same way then there is a chance.

Austerity is not going to.be the answer the state will be bailing out so many businesses. We have seen Rail for instance. The Airlines then there will be holiday companies etc etc . How that is done how the NHS for instance is positioned funded in the future. A technocrat may well be the answer.

But it's not Corbyn and the rest......so it's what.....time to study history and start the long recovery for Labour. Maybe actually do something about the mess you helped to create....
I wish you’d read posts. I said they either need charisma and offer hope, even if it’s false hope, or their politics need to offer inspiration and hope. I think Atlee did well on the second. Starmer offers neither, in both respects he’s dull as dishwasher.

Miliband and Brown both lost badly. Centrism isn’t some magic wand. And given I’m a socialist I’m hardly going to agree with those ideas. The sad thing is that this pandemic might well give an opening to left ideas just as corbyn and Sanders got beaten by centrist politics.

I actually donít. Retrospectively I think John McDonnell would have been better than corbyn but clear he is also yesterdayís man. I would have voted for Clive Lewis.

I wish you read mine what I said was he has a chance when this is over. His approach may appeal more than Boris bluster.

I also said that a left wing not socialist in your terms could well open up. Austerity is going to be rejected as a way forward and the state will need to invest.

Corbyn was terrible in interviews. He wasnít a leader. But the left had such a small pool and he happened to be there just as there was a growing desire for left politics. Sadly, ultimately he has set that back.

We shall see but I think a Mr Bean character with Ed Miliband politics wont cut it. Obviously I hope Iím wrong as however crap Starmer is heís much better than the Tories.

I agree on your last sentence though. And itís sad that the left just ****ed itself right at this time.

I'm not being defeatist but it depends on the margin of defeat, I'm prepared and expect at least another 9 years of the current Tory malaise.

Post Corbyn's election debacle, the incumbent is on a hiding to nothing.

Starmer is a skilled orator, measured in tone, and a good grounding as DPP.

Quite right that he is not hurling brickbats at Boris, but support.

I think he'll have plenty of opportunities and indeed arrows sharpened, and will score many a direct hit at the appropriate time.

2024 maybe too soon considering we are worse off than the kicking Michael Foot endured, but for me the journey home from Mordor to the shire has begun mr. Frodo
