I think his approach through the peak of the outbreak will be to be a voice in the room, rather than providing opposition in any meaningful sense - it's been a thread through his whole career.

The pandemic and the economic crisis that ensues will completely reshape politics for the next few years, so it's difficult to tell where we'll be come the next election and what kind of alternative government Starmer will pose.

His politics mean it's unlikely to be radically different to how Johnson will be pitching himself economically, but it may be that in a few years the ground will be more favourable to Labour, even with a less attractive manifesto than the 2017 one.

Even if he does win in 2024 he will be in the position of a Labour leader having to deliver austerity significantly greater than after 2010. It will be a bit like Wilson in 1974 picking up the pieces after the rubbish Ted Heath.

Arise Sir Keir.
Completely disagree. It's a good move for Labour.

Brown. Unelected leader, tail end of Blair years where people were fed up of it, and there had been the 2008 crash.
Undone by a hot-mic setup

Milliband. Up against a slippery lying toad who looked talked well and looked dynamic enough (but was a huge liar). Undone by a bacon sandwich.

Corbyn. Undone.

He still won't win though but after 2024 Nandy can come in and sweep Labour to power again
When your jobs have all been polished off by Brexit after this Covid shit then all those blue votes will certainly be borrowed

Yep - I used to play football with him and he went to the European Cup Final at Wembley to see Liverpool.

Four years is a long time but there is absolutely no way Labour win a majority at the next election regardless of what happens. With Starmer as leader I think it will be an even worse defeat than 2019.I think the Tory support is really going to double down for a while yet.

Mr Bean doesn't speak, apart from the odd noise.

Johnson allegedly has charisma, and look what that is doing to our country and its people.

Ah so suddenly deselections, sidelining people and expulsions are ok lol

Yet apparently chucking out the “losers” of the centre and right wasn’t ok.

It’s Starmers policies that will fall more than his Mr Bean persona. He’s an utterly useless politician and will quickly be found out.

Nandy is a dangerous and reactionary politician that will pull labour to the right on many social issues.

Well, let's give him the chance to present some.

He's the best of a pretty average bunch but if he does turn out to be as bad as you claim, he will at least be upholding recent tradition.

This post, seemingly posted in approval by Heb is extraordinary.

Corbyn was weak when doing any of this and should indeed have followed some of this advice. But the gnashing of teeth on here and in the media about witch hunts etc was wide spread. When in reality none of it happened. There wasn’t a single deselection as far as I know.

Yet now we have this. Sack everyone who was with corbyn (remember the wailing about corbyn removing staff), deselections, a call for witch hunts, and to cut out democracy and the membership entirely.

The nerve of Heb posting this is galling even for him.

Why not just not have a membership? Just have donations.

This document would make the alt right proud.

Why should I? Corbyn wasn’t. So I’ll say what I think.

Corbyn had his chance. He had clean sheet of paper, but he blew it, completely, utterly and spectacularly.
