Thanks for the detailed response Smoz.

I was drinking this:

Ale of the Golden Dream
5.6% ABV - 15 IBUs

American Golden/Blonde ale. Pale malts with a touch of Caramel malt give this ale a light body with a bready presence. This beer has a crisp, dry finish with a mild lingering bitterness from the Saphir finishing hops. Ale of the Golden Dream is well balanced and great for a hot day.

Modern 'craft' beers, served in keg, often have some haze to them. The NEIPAs Smoz talks about are the extreme end of the spectrum. Cloudy and murky, but delicious

Thanks Stinky... I think haze is a good description.

Of course a real NEIPA is hard to find in CA but you should be able to find this and it is pretty damn good.

Yes, Sierra Nevada is my go to beer at one of the places we go that has it. Last time we were there it was not on line.

Drank it for years in the past though in bottles and draught/draft. I don't get out much as I used to!

Having said that, I find it odd they are embracing the "haze".

If beer stayed the same for ever we’d still be drinking Long Life and Double Diamond ! Having said that there is some ridiculous stuff out there - strawberry/rhubarb Gose anybody?? (Gose is a beer style from Leipzig made with salt water. Go figure.)

Agree SP... some of the descriptions of beer is beginning to sound like those for wines!

Example from where we were last night:

A monster Imperial Red Ale, but still smooth and easy drinking. Brewed with 7 different malts to create a backbone that is sweet and caramel-like but balanced and fully attenuated. Gutterhead is medium bodied with just enough bitterness to keep the caramel malts in check. Dry hopped with Sorachi Ace and Amarillo, this brew takes on a whole new dimension of flavor: light lemon peel, notes of dill, and a slight citrus presence make this one truly unique.

Another reason for the popularity of hazy beers is that traditionally isinglass is used to filter beer/wine in order to clarify beer/wine. Some brewers are producing beers without using this step to produce a more natural (and vegan) product.

How long should cask ale be left to settle in the cellar before being served?

Depends on the beer. About a day.

Hazed/NEIPA's seem to be even more common compared to the classic west coast style, i actually like/appreciate both styles.

Jeppe's (Evil Twin) bar (Himmeriget) over here has been getting lots of beers from his new brewery "Evil Twin NYC" that opened earlier this year in Queens, some of his hazy IPA's/Double IPA's I have tried have been excellent, but definitely allot of experimentation going on there as can be seen by some of the beer styles they release each week here..... Only just spotted this, but I'd like to raise a pint to Tony Gunner the publican of the Goyt Inn in Whaley Bridge.

After the village was evacuated under threat of the dam collapse a couple of weeks ago, residents were allowed back into the village for only 15 minutes. Most people used their time to save family heirlooms, pets or pack important belongings.

Tony used it to check on his cellar.

My local has had a few beers from I believe Margate brewery Gadds. Consistently good, particularly the She Sells Sea Shells, a quaffable 4.8 per cent. Lovely.

And even better, it comes with a built in drunkometer - when you can no longer say it, you've had enough.
