Brilliant 4 day test match

Well played both teams

Think England will have some mental edge after that. No one in the Aussie ranks will fancy Archer at Headingly.

Brilliant test cricket. Loved it

Good game. Thought you may have declared earlier, more chance of us taking a few chances if the target looks gettable.
Labuschagne played well.
Our top order needs to lift. Bancroft cannot play spin, maybe play Harris.
Wouldn't mind Starc for Siddle, 2 genuine fast bowlers VS your 1.

That is the problem, for England - A certain Mr M Starc, nicely rested and fresh, waiting for his opportunity !!

Leach won’t get the same attention as Archer, but a bit proper spinner is nearly as important for the future. If we can get some batting spots nailed down we can Oiler’s start to look very good and with Wood back I would actually give us a chance down under for the first time in years

Smith going back out was absolutely indefensible. But the ACB is ‘leading the way’ on concussion. Fvcking weasels

Problem we had, was we really couldn’t take the risk of Australia winning. I think it was convenient that Smith not playing wasn’t announced till after England had been batting for nearly half hour.

Anyway, terrific test match, and if they’d given the extra time in the mornings on Thursday and Friday then we might have just seen a result.

Enthralling match! Archer made a huge difference as much
with the softening up as the wickets taken.
Anderson going down a real blessing in disguise.
As far as the batting failures go, will Australia stick with Warner
as long as England stick with Root?
Anything coming at Warner around the wicket squares him up
and gets him prodding and dabbling.
Not as much a technique thing with Joe Root - like Greg Chappell said
"It's not that I'm batting badly, I just keep getting out!"

Tbh I'm not sure about this, but it is just a concussion case, where you can replace someone mid match ? What if someone breaks a finger, trying to take a catch ? I remember Nasser Hussain did that against NZ way back and didn't bat in the 2nd innings as a result, when Eng desperately fought to save the match (they didn't). And in the 80's, Paul Terry had his arm broken by one of the Windies quicks and came back at No 11, with his arm in a sling, to try and help Eng avoid the follow on assist Allan Lamb to get a 100 (He didn't bat in the 2nd innings). So in both cases, only 9 wickets for the oppo to get.
And then of course, Anderson pulls up lame at Edgbaston and although allowed to bat, not allowed a runner and apparently injured himself further while batting (and yes I agree he probably should not have played in the first place but someone could say pull a hamstring chasing the ball in the field and wouldn't be allowed a runner when batting and so clearly hampered).
So, although what happened to Smith was horrible and clearly the right thing to pull him out, it seems a bit unfair that they could replace him, if only other injuries are not treated , in the same way ?

Concussion is (rightly) a huge focus point in cricket now.

The point of the sub is to stop players trying to be brave and help the team when they likely have a concussion.
I think the bigger issue for me is that they deemed him well enough to bat on the day, then once he’d done his bit he wasn’t fit anymore.
Throw in the timing of it being announced after England had gone out to bat, leaves a bit of a sour taste.
