You may want to listen to some of the music of the time. ('Sweet 16' comes to mind. Or 'Young Girl' and oh so many others).

It's simply daft to ignore the zeitgeist of the 60s and 70s.

(Do I really have to sigh and say this isn't defending anything? Please no : but context matters).

Rolling Stones...

I can see that you're fifteen years old
No I don't want your I.D.
And I've seen that you're so far from home
But it's no hanging matter
It's no capital crime

Aerosmith (probably too late but what the hell)...

Schoolgirl sweetie with the classy kinda sassy
Little skirt's climbing way up her knee
There was three young ladies in the school gym locker
When I noticed they was looking at me
I was a high school loser, never made it with a lady
'Til the boys told me something I missed
Then my next door neighbor with a daughter had a favor
So I gave her just a little kiss, like this

I go clubbing loads as a teenager and manage to meet women well into their 20s, including my current girlfriend who’s 23, so there’s no excuse for proper adults.

How many girls below 16 get into clubs anyway? Fake IDs aren’t what they used to be afaik, with bouncers scanning them and that.

Back in the day, they wouldn’t let a bird over 14 into nightclubs. Happy days.

Also a Sonny Boy Williamson track covered by various British bands:

Good morning little school girl
Can I go home with you
Tell your mama and your papa
I'm a little school boy too

In eras of Slavery I'd imagine that prostitute was something more you were bought to do, rather than paid to do.
I’m sorry but the bit I’ve highlighted is laughably wrong.

Prostitution didn’t require money to flourish, barter was freely used.

Indeed, in 2019 it still is, despite money having been around for hundreds of years.

You are entirely right. And we have plenty of ancient poetry to attest to that fact.

(Oh, and tons to support the fact that many prositutes were not slaves, but free women).

I always felt a bit sorry for Gary Puckett, at least he was trying NOT to act on his instincts. He should have included a 4th verse about not wanting to appear on a register, just to drive home the point.

He’s totally innocent as far as I’m concerned as he sang,

‘That come on look is in your eyes’.

She was clearly asking for it.

Not on a hot summers evening with a popular band playing, it wouldn’t.
