Said it before but I’ll say it again, Hodson Odoi, Jayden Sancho, RLC & Tammy Abraham are all South London boys & none of them ended up in our academy??

The more we can bring through the more attractive we’ll be. If the players have a real chance of breaking through with us and we have reasonable facilities that will change. I also think there will have to be a bit of a reshuffle with the loan changes that are coming. Appreciate Chelsea could just sell all the youngsters with a buy back clause but that assumes other clubs will go along and be happy with that, especially if the buy back price is likely to be well lower than the future value

We used bits of this approach under Pulis.

Pretty simple that they would pick Chelsea and Man City over us.

If you were offered better facilities and promises of high wages, not to mention inducements, where would you most likely end up. Upgrade what we have and they are more likely to come

Does anyone out there have an sense of how our scouting department compares with Brentford on the one hand, any other PL teams on the other in terms of numbers of employees, relationships with other clubs, agencies etc?

Quite simple really. If you are an outstanding prospect in primary school at the age of eight (don't forget where Palace were in the league when all those names were 8) and your parents are offered a choice for their son of the clubs within the 60 mile catchments area - so that would include Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham and even Southampton ( they have an academy off-shoot at Shepherds Bush), why would necessarily always choose Palace over the others?

Correct, unlike the odd post you replied to. Hudson Odoi signed for Chelsea aged 7 in 2007, when we were in the Championship under Peter Taylor, while Chelsea were being runners up in the PL and winning both cups......

You donít find it concerning that South Londonís top club cannot attract South Londonís top talent?

If players could only play in South London yes but this isnt a reality, they can play where they want and thus it isnt really a surprise a youth player would pick Chelsea over us. The fact they are from South London is irrelevant.

Seems odd you would put your response ignoring the poster’s point, that when he signed for Chelsea, we were managed by Peter Taylor languishing in the 2nd tier.

The reality of London though is that we share a catchment area with Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham etc. It's not like we're losing them to Millwall.

Look at this this way, despite this competition we have two standout players in Wilf and AWB who's careers have so far eclipsed all those you mentioned. We do ok.

Our biggest challenge is to make sure we don't bloat our squad too much to the point that the likes of AWB wouldn't get a chance. We need to make a conscious choice on this cause it's too easy signing players to improve the strength in depth which really just becomes a barrier.

I would be slightly concerned if we were missing out on SOME of them now, or if we were losing them in 2007 to Millwall or Charlton.

Abraham and RLC, like Hudson Odoi both went to Chelsea when they were chasing the PL title, why on earth would they chose a mid to lower Championship team instead?

None of us on here have any idea what 7-9 year olds are currently choosing us vs Chelsea or similar right now, based on the success of Wilf or AWB for example, and we wonít for another 8 years or so.

I really donít understand why you think that potentially good 8 year old players choosing a PL championship contender over us a decade or more ago is an issue?
