As I see things, the problem is that Wilf may well be worth 80m to Palace, as hes our most important player, but the only clubs that could afford him would not necessarily have him as an automatic starter. Therefore, he may not be worth that much to any potential buyer.

However, better quality coaching and team mates should make him a better player and hes not too old to learn. Already at Palace hes shown greater awareness and maturity this season.

Im not sure what to conclude from any of that but its my twopennyworth

Well if we sold him for 10m + 5m add-ons (according to most reports) then I doubt we saw any of the add-ons.

If as it is being suggested we have paid a total of 13m to get him back then it wasn't the great deal that was sold to us.

I'm inclined to believe croydonexile and I imagine some of it is due to add-ons based on appearances, PL survival(s) and goals. It is likely Wilf has met all those thresholds.
As always the lack of transparency in transfer dealings is the problem.

Some reports at the time suggested we only paid 350k for him but who knows how much we paid the agent and what signing on fee we paid. There was certainly a 20% sell-on clause so Bristol City got a good return in the end.

Even before the sell-on we paid a lot more than 350k.
Still a good deal for us but Bristol City got a much better deal than most Palace fans believe (even before getting a 5m sell-on)

Don't get me wrong as it was certainly a great result for us.

However, if the 13m is accurate then we have been told porkies.

Since when have Palace changed their stance on selling their best players as our owners have said nothing of the sort.

Media rumours are worthless until Palace's owners agree to a sale on their terms and as far as they are concerned they gave those players long term contracts in 2018 because they wanted them to stay at the club not to sell them a year into said deals.

Both Roy and Steve Parish have reminded the press that players linked with moves have long contracts with Palace and that they are not looking to sell them.

Silly season has already started.

I did find this article from 2015:

Quote:
Manchester United could still recoup the fee they initially paid for Wilfried Zaha after Crystal Palace co-chairman Steve Parish revealed a "big sell-on fee" in the event of the player leaving Selhurst Park again.

Zaha, 22, sealed a permanent return to south-east London on transfer deadline day after initially joining the club on a season-long loan deal.

The winger was Sir Alex Ferguson's last signing as United manager when he joined the club for an initial 10m fee but Zaha failed to make an impression at Old Trafford, registering just two appearances for the club.

While the fee for his latest move has not been disclosed, a number of reports suggest Palace have paid just 3m to bring the player back to the club.

But United could still see more of a return with a number of add-ons included in the deal.

"There is a big sell on fee for United so we will be very happy if eventually they get their money back," Parish was quoted as saying in the Evening Standard. "That would mean he has been very successful for us. It was clear there probably was not a future for him at United so we worked with them to do a deal that worked for both clubs.
I can't find anything from the club but the BBC reported at the time that
Quote:
The deal is worth an initial 3m, which could rise to 6m with add-ons, while United also have a sell-on clause.

Sun readers will not grasp that players who are likely to want to leave a club at the end of the present season are not likely to sign five-year contracts at that point becaus that would make it harder for them to leave. Because the price goes up the longer the contract has to run.

None of that means that he doesn't want to leave the club now. He may, he may not. If he doesn't, it's unlikely he'll be sold (unless an astronomical offer comes in). But if he does want to leave, and he expresses that desire to Roy and Steve, chances are they'll work to facilitate a move that works for both him and us.

If Wilf says that he wants to move on for Champion's League football, it'll be difficult for Parish to stand in his way (unless completely derisory offers are tabled)

Maybe not, and he could renegotiate that contract as well. But it could price most suitors out of the market for the time being and it doesn't look likely to me that anyone is going to stump up 80m or that we will sell him for a song.

Why? What about De Gea at Man U. Wanted by Real Madrid, he's wanted to go for ages. Needs to and has, honoured his contract like a professional. If 100m is what Wilf is worth to us (for example), with a massive "better the devil you know" premium in there, 99m would be derisory would it not ? Or do you think we are a charity and should forego 1m willy nilly?

Rumour of Mbappe leaving PSG. Man City? Could open the door for Wilf move to Paris. If he goes, I'd prefer that to watching him tear it up for another PL side.

Pep recently said they can't afford Greizeman and if that's the case they won't be able to afford Mbappe.
