If the price was very reasonable and signed on the basis on developing over 3-4 seasons wouldn’t be against it. In no way is he better than Luka or Kouyate and don’t think he is the answer for the 3rd midfield slot.

Have to disagree about Kouyate. We have seen Kouyate put some good performances in, but rarely consistent. He has also offered 0 goal threat when he has played. Billing has however.

Our midfield need improving, not looking at cheap options + his behaviour there over moving hasn't been great has it

Looks a real prospect, I remember seeing him coming through the ranks at Esbjerg when he must have only been about 15. An absolute unit!

Because what we need are more tacklers rather than creators. He'd probably fit right in here. The question is; can he pass sideways to the wingers? If so, sign him up!

Billing’s contribution would be multi-faceted: he’s got a sweet left peg, he can win tackles, he has a long throw and he’s a physical unit. Plus he’s young. His presence may release Luka further forward, not in a passing capacity as a playmaker but as a shooting threat and to win the ball higher up. We should play long ball unless Meyer or a Cabaye replacement are in the team. Win some 2nd balls further up the pitch.

I agree we need to restructure the midfield next season, but Billing in my opinion eventhough a decent player but i do not see him as either a true Defensive or Attacking midfielder that fulfills our needs in our system.
Personally i feel our only true quality midfielder i would retain is Luka. Kouyate moved to Central defence to partner Tomkins, especially if we cash in on Sakho as we will need money to rebuild, hence Schlupp and Townsend be moved on, as for Meyer i really cant decide as i feel he has not been used correctly but clearly has quality so maybe keep, also hold on to McArthur as a squad man.
So who replaces them? Mooy as our additional defensive man, Mason Mount as our playmaker but who also scores goals from midfield something we desperately need, the wide midfielder/winger would be Matt Ritchie who is very good at freekicks and corners but also chips in with goals, another exciting young player to bring in would be James (Swansea) who could play a variety of roles, for me possibly "10" would be his best position.
They would be my Midfield squad for next season, and if Roy decides to put his feet up then how about fresh young management with Lampard and Morris coming in, with Roy moving upstairs to offer the premiership experience they will need to call upon.

Why Not? Can you seriously say that you have been happy with Townsend overall contributions? he is very inconsistent, also why else do you think RH often keeps subbing him. Often the majority of his crosses are wasteful whereas Ritchie crosses are much more accurate and effective, also his corners and freekicks are better but also importantly he works the line better in helping out his defender.
I certainly would be happy if he could be used in a swap deal with Palace receiving am adjustment on the fee.

If we want anybody off Newcastle it should be shelvey. Can actually accurately pass forward and take a set piece.

Yes, but he doesn't even get in Rafa's XI and he's no mug. Problem with Shelvey is attitude and workrate. And we can't afford to carry anyone. I'm coming round to the idea that this summer is going to be another one of transition, sadly. The mood music around the club is distinctly negative. Parish doesn't get excited by games any more, the club is for sale, Roy will be here with his boring turgid football, AWB will be sold and we will bring in some players with very little Premier League experience. Hope I'm wrong.

Spot on. A bit of a youth blocker but a competent enough signing if it were cheap and wages were low. However, we have limited funds, so should really focus on the priority positions only.

What is teh reason Billing was in and out of the team and match squad so much especially at the end of the season? Injured? Injury prone, unfavoured?

I would happily swap the two!

I don't know how Townsend escapes criticism on here. He does so little, has no real raw winger pace and actually only works hard in a few games here and there. He often goes missing and can be very lazy indeed. He offers very little but is capable of the occasional good thing.

If KaiKai had played all season like he has I think he'd have created just as many goals etc. And people would say he has not done enough, it is a weak area and he needs replacing.

This guy is a high earner at the club yet the bar is lowered for him rather than raised to match that level.

Unfortunately some on here have their favorites who are then exempt from having anything said against them regardless if its true. As you rightly say he does very little of late and for me anything constructive for the past 12 months or longer, also for me what makes him frustrating is we all know he has quality to do far better and contribute more, but lacks consistency.
Fans are often critical of Benteke's contribution, but we all know what his strengths are and what would make him more effective, hence if only Townsend were to produce the accurate crosses a player like CB thrives on then we may have seen a lot more goals from him.
I mentioned Ritchie as an alternative, as for me he does a lot more of what we expect from a winger than AT also maybe sometimes a change of personall does benefit a club, and we DO need change this summer.
