The interview was accurate.

Also what do you expect Hodgson to say? "Yeah we're going to sell him"?

Won't get him and probably can't afford him. If villa don't go up then it's Spurs, Arsenal or Everton who would be keen I think. A nice thought, but rather keep Wilf though...

Wilf said what he said. I hate the Mail but they did nothing wrong with regards to Wilf's interview. Wilf was very clear. It doesn't matter what Hodgson said afterwards. The dye has been cast.

My personal opinion is i dont think we will sell Zaha, firstly as i cant see Any of the Top 6 clubs willing to pay anywhere near the fee we would want, also i feel Wilf himself would prefer a move abroad with PSG high on that list if given the opportunity.
Much more likely to go will be AWB and possibly Sakho of our high profile players, and for me it would be the better option for raising the capital that will be needed for the re-building in the summer.
Could one of those be Grealish? would be good to think so but unlikely as he will have the pick of bigger and more successful clubs than Palace, but also can anyone see us pay a fee maybe around 35m? very unlikely but would be good to be proven wrong.

You're starting to sound a bit worried.

Further to my earlier post, Grealish has talent. Different type of player to Wilf but does have the flair and we may have the money to buy him.

If, and is a big IF, we could get £60m+ for Wilf (if he actually does want to leave that is) and got Grealish for c.£30m then it is potentially one of the better outcomes possible. £30m for Grealish would be a snip if he banged in 10 goals and looked the player he potentially could be for us, with teams circling with £50m the year after due to his age.

If Villa get up and they are a very serious proposition there'd be no reason for Grealish to go anywhere

Grealish would be a freakily good spellcheck of a signing, but I expect Villa to go back up and him to stay.

If they don't and we have to sell Zaha then I can see the sense in it. He could earn big money at Palace and be guaranteed to play, unlike Mahrez at Man City or Shaquiri at Liverpool

Obviously just speculation at this point but we have to be open to the idea wilf might want to go

If we get the right price, like the 80m suggested in this article and replace wilf with lookman and grealish weíve done alright!

We canít replace wilf. No palace fan chooses for him to leave but if he really wants to and we get the offer then we could do a lot worse than that

For the love of god, why do people take anything in the papers or the rumour football sites seriously.

The summer hasnít even started yet and itís already getting silly.

I think that regardless of whether Wilf leaves or not he wants it to be known, on the record, that his 'failure' at Man Utd wasn't due to a lack of ability of ambition. That he does want to achieve big things. If he subsequently decides to stay with Palace and/or an acceptable offer doesn't come in, he can justifiably say that he's made the choice to stay and will have earned respect for it (if its possible to hold him in any higher regard). Being a one club man is still important to some palyers.

Which may include Grealish. I'd much rather keep Wilf but do think Grealish would be just what we need in the midfield. Someone to create and drive us forward and retain posession and thus momentum. We don't hold onto the ball enough which contributes to letting games slip away.

As for Villa, they're in great form but the form team doesn't always win the play offs. Leeds v Villa would be a good play off final.

Most of what you say has some facts, but what you bypass is can/will Palace pay 30m plus for a midfielder? also would we blow the majority of the budget on a midfielder especially when he would not be the Zaha type replacement? i have serious doubts. Maybe the answer to the playmaker role lays within the club currently in Meyer, who is a similar type to Grealish just less physical and robust in the tackle but if we adjust our midfield play more to suit Meyer's strengths then we will see a player very similar to Grealish's game, all be it less physical but more technical.
If and i hope he does Not leave as Zaha would be very hard to replace not just on but off the field as well, as we found when Ian Wright left. However if that was to happen then a change in approach/style will be needed as we will not be able to replicate WZ and his impact with Palace, maybe bringing in a cheaper option but different player like Vic Moses for around 12m with sensible wages would compensate well, especially as he would also appease the fans loss for the of their favorite player but replaced with another.

Buy players from Premier League teams:
Pro's:
May have been overlooked by current club (Kouyate/Tomkins/Schlupp)
Clear talent first place to have been signed/play for them
Premier league experience

Cons':
Normally overinflated wages (PVA)
Transfer fees normally high (Schlupp/PVA)
Perhaps not the hunger to succeed as someone who hasnt played before or worked up through ranks
Little resale value

Buy players from Championship teams:
Pro's:
Hidden Gems who may not have been spotted
Good enough players who simply havent been given a chance
Understand the English game and battle of what a Championship is and lower level Prem side
Wages normally a lot lower than buying from Prem
Easy to scout multiple times

Cons:
Transfer fees are overinflated
Risk they cannot cut it at Premier League Level
Will need to work a lot harder for the team as they wont be the luxury star (say Wilf - who even still works very hard for us).

Buying from abroad:
Pro's:
Can get real value as wages abroad are lower than Prem and Championship
Transfer fees can be lower - money is tighter abroad due to lower level TV rights i.e. Spanish B is x50 less than Championship

Cons:
Can end up with some right duds who are then hard to move on. They move to a Prem club and even though their wages are low for us Sorloth on £30k for example, still too high for an unproven player within England. Ridewald another prime example of this. Language barriers, moving abroad, family, kids and school all play a part.

The above aims to point that the transfer market is complicated and far from straight forward. For everyone who says Victor Moses back would be a good signing, there is an equal amount saying he would be a bad signing. This type of signing easily could have been said for Tomkins or Kouyate, both who have turned out well. If Grealish was up for sale (i.e. Villa dont go up) we would be silly not to enquire, whether Wilf does or does not go.

i still maintain there is very little between the top of the championship and the bottom half of the prem. I'd expect most players to be able to step up comfortably. I don't think the risk is a big as it used to be
