Sell. 2 years left on his deal and 28 years old. If we don't sell this summer we end up getting nothing. Same with Sakho and possibly even with Luca if he wont extend. Its probably too late with Benteke and we will be taking a £30mill hit.

We cant afford to pay big money and then get nothing back all the time.

I would actually agree on PvA as while he is a good player, he is replaceable for probably a lower fee and lower wages given he arrived in the Big Sam spree. You would question whether he would get another long contract with us at 30? Whether the United interest is genuine is debatable as is whether he would be happy as a back up to Shaw.

Disagree on the other two - Sakho makes us play differently from the back while Luca holds things together.

So much hate for PVA. He's become a bit of a scapegoat. Maybe the emergence of AWB has raised expectations unrealistically. For where we are a s a club he is a very good left back.

Fact is PVA was a mainstay in a defence that conceded the least goals in the bottom half, kept the most clean sheets in the bottom half, and actually conceded one goal fewer than 6th place Man Utd.

Yes I accept he's not brilliant defensively, but in my view he makes up for that with his link up play going forward, which at times is outstanding.

Don't get me wrong, if we get an offer of 25-30 million it'll be see you later, but this idea that replacing him will be easy because he's not very good is complete nonsense. When was the last time we had a better left back than him? Souare?? Parr?? Moxey?? Granville?

No hate from me - just pragmatism - we could get a replacement for maybe less than MU were willing to pay, and maybe also reduce the wage bill. That is the economics of mid table PL teams.

As for a better left back - Shaw & Gordon were both high quality - but none compare to the mighty Borrowdale......

I don't see any hate for PVA, just disappointment. I also don't think he is anywhere near as good as you say and would suggest that his value is significantly less than £25m, despite his goals. He is better than previous left backs but also cost a lot more. IMHO PVA had one good season but otherwise has underachieved

If we sell PVA for 10m, we wouldn't be able to replace him for the same money. I say keep him in the team, if Wilf leaves it may allow him to express his attacking quality a little bit more. In the mean time, nurture Tyrick Mitchell into a possible replacement in 1/2 years.

AWB on the Right and Mitchell on the left would be something he club could be very proud of.

You summed it up perfectly.
What i will add is we know he is not the best defensively, so to help it needs the Left sided midfielder to work closer defensively with PVA when they can interlink play, and you would think that Schlupp is made for that role but he has struggled himself when in the team to fill that gap.
Possibly the answer could lay in a 3-5-2 system?

Defenders who can't defend are a no from me. Not even being interested in it takes it to another level.

No way. He is still a decent attacking full back and left backs are very hard to find. They have a premium.

PVA will go for around £20 million.
An experienced PL and international player don’t come cheap.

We shouldn't sell our player cheap if someone wants them, if Liverpool were selling him to us we would be forced to pay just above the going rate.

Completely agree, it has become fashionable to knock him regardless of how he actually performs.

While I understand your reasoning, we can't afford to let more than 1 or 2 first reamers go in the same window, even if it means some of them walk for nothing next summer.

Errrrr he's won us at least six points this season and last season I think it was nine points.

We have three very good defensive players and one kinda average one yet we've kept plenty of clean sheets and have an awesome gd. That suggests our defence is not broken. WTF would we go dismantle the one bit of the team that is reliable and actually good. When we are losing Batshuayi, Ayew, Sako and probably Wilf. We will have **** all strikers then like prize prats we'll let another four or five goals a season go. FFS.

Agreed. Anything less will be foolish since we will have to spend around that figure for an adequate replacement. Transfer inflation has happened since PVA joined us. We might save on wages but that's probably all.

Agree with you too. PVA's directness and thrust might be in shorter supply with Wilf likely to leave. If we sell him, it has to be for a high figure. PVA is proven, despite the (PVA) knockers on this site.

PVA is good player especially for the £14m we paid. If we could line up a decent but cheaper replacement and got £20m for him then couldn’t really argue. Would all depend on who’s come in
