We've been firefighting nearly the whole time in the PL resulting in short term expensive fixes to our problems, hence we've run out of money. Somehow we need to keep both Roy and Wilf happy to stay at the club the summer, whilst doing some clever dealings to try and strengthen the squad.

Selling Benteke is the key. If not then we could probably handle selling PVA, however selling Townsend would be a mini disaster.
Without Benteke and Sakho the season before last we'd be in the Championship right now.

How do you know this? Those accounts are from a year ago since then we've made three non tv deals and we don't know what the club has been doing with its corporate offerings. We finished higher up the league and we definitely were on TV more than the minimum so we get more of the facilities fee. The club needs to grow it's TV revenue through higher finishes, increased TV appearances, non matchday income and matchday and as far as I can see the club is doing that.

We are losing players, we are attempting to resign players on lower deals, we had money in the bank that may well have been used to cover player amortisation and if we don't lose the four we want to keep then we would have a very strong squad with the addition of 3/4 players. Those can be two loans from the UK and others from abroad, and/or a permanent transfer and/or frees. There's not a lot actually wrong with our squad and IF the seven or eight low quality/unused players go then we add the three or four we actually need through clever deals, frees and loans then happy days we don't need to sell anybody.

If we dont realise the squad needs improving NOW as Roy has often suggested we do, then the Board needs to take heed. Yes it may well cost serious investment initially but once we have the players in place to help establish a comfortable premiership position, we can then look towards moving forward, with the players in place we then do Not need to spend heavily in future windows.
As for your other point of who do we drop? firstly Cabaye's future needs urgently sorting out, but we know without question we need a quality replacement for RLC as a priority, and the other position has got to be a Striker as we know to depend on CW is risky, Sorloth is a premiership novice for now, and with CB we just dont know what to expect next season but surely we cant be happy with a 3 goal striker to depend on next season, so decisions need to be made.
Those areas would be my priority for starters.
To my mind a step up and move forward for Palace is staying in a comfortable mid-table position all season. Certainly Roy warned in January that we needed to improve the squad and when you look at the 24 man squad that we named we all know his prayers weren't answered. Punch, Dann, Wickham and Souare all long-term injuries. Only two goalies, Mutch and new boy Jach who has not appeared for us yet. Come May and with almost everyone fit a very different picture. The first team picks itself and if everyone stays then we just need to strengthen in a couple of areas.

I would be looking at an attacking and defensive midfielder and would be happy to roll the dice on Benteke, Sorloth and Wickham.

As has been proven before serious investment does not guarantee results and pushing the boat out in this window doesn't mean that we won't have to spend heavily in the future.

I don think the club will gamble with a striker whos not played in almost two seasons one who has no confidence left and a young potential who has never scored in the prem.

Absolutely.
Players only Need to be Sold or Loaned,to Create the Space, for the 3/4 Additions.
With the Ground Redevelopment, for Extra Revenue,to Help with Further Growth.
Avoid the Injuries Suffered,Last Season,Improve the Back-up Players,& the Squad is Good.

I think the main difference is all the talks behind closed doors don't get reported as much during an international tournament (certainly while England are in it). Less is reported because the media have plenty of other things to talk about.

It's all gone very quiet despite Hodgson insisting repeatedly that Parish and Freedman had a lot of work to do.

My pants are dry for now, but it looks like we're in for another ponderous transfer window with a last-minute dash to get deals done.

At the very least, contracts for Cabaye, Ward etc could have been wrapped up already. Maybe they're waiting to announce those later on.

We do have an overall good record with making value-for-money permanent signings (Luka, Tomkins, Townsend), but we also have a track record of leaving gaps in the squad that make life difficult mid-season (strikers last season, left-backs the season before).

Fingers crossed discussions are going on behind close doors. But I've got a feeling that Roy will be frustrated with the lack of progress so far.

I doubt Kai Kai or JW will have any hope at Palace next season. The best young players should be loaned out they need league football.

Kai Kai has no future here or at this level, he has struggled at L1 level recently, Williams remains an enigma - clearly talented, often a game changer at Sunderland until he got injured last season, a full international, yet never has a long enough run of fitness to really show what longer term potential he may have. It will be interesting to see what RH makes of him - but when you see the new breed of midfielder in his position such as RLC, tall, powerful and a "big unit" you do wonder whether someone small and nimble like JW can make it now.

Early days. So far clubs have bought 28 players. 41 have been sold or released with a couple of retirements.

Transfer update

Hi people, I'm new to this.so i was wondering when we are going to hear any positive news on real transfers, not hearsay from newspapers.
The objective from the chairman was to " get our business done early", so where are these new additions to the squad?
I would have thought that they would want to be in place before pre-season, so they can integrate with the squad and get used to how we intend to play.
I'm afraid it seems to be the same as always, we are linked with everyone but buy nobody, and i hope we won't be spending our way out of trouble again in January, although with Hodgson in charge, i can't see that will be an issue as i would hope we will be in a decent position in the table by then

Kirby will feature a lot more around the fringes of the first team by the sounds of it.
