Iversen is a great squad man, & will more than play a part this season.

I don't see him as a 90 minute man though, either starting & playing for an hour or coming off the bench with half hour to good.

His experience, nous & ball keeping skills will be invaluable.

Shouldn't we be looking to get the best out of the six strikers we've got? A target man in Iverson, a goal poacher in Murray, a try hard in Easter and pacey strikers in Sean Scannell, Ibra Sekajja and Wilfried Zaha.

If Sean Scannell can remain injury free and show the form he had when he first burst on the scene we could have a goal scoring gem wanted by Premiership Clubs.
Murray isn't a poacher

Shame we got him at the end of his career, he is a class player, clever, good touch and can finish. With width he could be lethal.
I agree he got a great scoring record for us.

Knew all that "option to buy" business when re-signing the loan was a load of old tosh (i.e. worthless). Gutted about this. Hilarious hearing from those who think he could have scored more than the 1:3 league starts he achieved (despite our 2 DM 11's and scant width). Mark Bright was 1:2.5 league starts in generally excellent Palace sides. Was he not good enough either? Shockingly poor judges.

Yeah, a lot of people were really positive about the deal when we loaned him again, but ultimately (as I too suspected) the agreement was worthless as you say. Real pity.

Another season in the Championship might have done him a lot of good. I can't really wish him well at Norwich as it's a club I really dislike, but maybe it's a year too soon?

If Norwich are going to rely on Holt, Vaughan and Steve Morisson to score the goals to try and keep them up in th e Premiership then we could well see Vaughan in back in the Championship in 2012.

Are you guys actually stupid? We all knew that Vaughan had to agree to the deal. It is not about whether CPFC could get Vaughan in January, it is about whether he would sign for us. Why would a player that could play for a prem/upper championship team sign for a team that could be in league one in the coming season? We did well to get him back on loan because who knows what league we would be in otherwise.

I am gutted we couldn't sign him, but fair play to him for getting another shot in the prem, and fair play to Everton for getting 2.5mil for him!

Good luck JV, thanks for getting the goals that may have kept us up last season.

Here's a question for all those people upset by this.

Do you think if we had signed him in January for something like 700K-1m then if Norwich had offered us the 2.5m then we should be turning it down?

We'd have snapped their hands off and taken the tidy profit.

Heard SP, certainly one of the owners, saying that "for obvious reasons we can't discuss negotiations or player contractual details" etc. What we all know is that only the "inner sanctum" really know all the details. What we can comment on is the noises in the press from the owners at the time.

Indeed, we may well have lost a million quid in 5 minutes by not having the courage of our convictions (in understanding quality and value when we see it).

Thing is..I personally don't think for a second that JV would have signed for us in January even if we had wanted to sign him. I would have thought his aspirations would be a top championship team with a realistic chance of promotion or a lowly premiership team. i find it strange that people think it would be a given that he'd join us even if we did have an offer accepted.

It definitely shows that the model of signing young prem fringe players can give a tidy profit.

Exactly. If you've arranged a fee with the selling club, and the player says "I can see the quality at palace despite their position in the table", surely you try to do the deal if you rate the player there and then?

I think we bottled it in Jan, and then in May we didn't even try: maybe we didn't think he was worth the extra 750k? I think we lost interest - there are no press reports of us even trying to have talks with JV.

It's the way to go: a young player who has prem experience, but who then has injuries is going to struggle to reestablish himself because by that stage the Prem club in question will have signed 2 or 3 foreigners and be further down the pecking order.

But you have to have the courage of your convictions. Certainly a player like JV was only going to gain in value with game time. It wouldn't have been a big risk.
