Should be dropped for Sri Lanka tour, but Root is his mate, so probably won’t be.

Agree with that. In my opinion both Buttler and Foakes are better 'keepers and JB's batting has gone to pot. I would take Buttler and Foakes on tour.

I'm glad to hear that England did well today and Denly got his highest test score.

With England batting the whole day I think my chances of going on Monday have increased.

This might slightly controversial - and could be a restraint of trade, but should we be allowing potential tourists to play Championship cricket in the same season of a tour, ie this year Labuschagne & Siddle?
Also, Anderson mentioned recently we don’t prepare pitches to suit our own bowlers, other countries do.

Not controversial at all, IMO. Bob Willis has regularly moaned about this, on the debate show, on Sky. Any overseas shouldn't be allowed to play County Cricket, in a year when their Country is touring the UK.

With the Aussie reviews, i’ve noticed Paine gets zero support from his senior players. Warner never gets involved. And with the Denly one today, Paine and Marsh are discussing it, and Smith walks past, staring at Marsh, but says nothing. Leaves Paine hanging out to dry. Utterly bizarre.

Totally agree. The Aussies would never be so accomodating and allow touring players to play in the Sheffield Shield. They are sensible, we are not.

Warner is not considered a senior player anymore. Part of his punishment. He is not involved as a result.

His use of reviews is paineful...

Think he’s keeping the seat warm until the return of Smith.
I understand Alex Carey is a decent wicketkeeper he’ll probably replace Paine in due course.

I did wonder about that. The ‘leadership’ thing? What about Smith? Isn’t it another year or so?

Something like that. But Smith was never a good captain. Like Root no real experience, just picked as he was anointed as next in line.

That doesn't sound to me quite compatible with the spirit of cricket, somehow.

Totally agree but Smith has been setting fields in this series. I thought it was very odd with the Denly review how he didn’t at least stop.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Paine quits after this series.

Not sure. I think the Aussies mightn't have the stomach for an impossible chase of 400 plus and go cheaply if they fancy Monday off.

Smith got criticised I think after the 1st test for directing fielders, and basically having to much to say apparently.
Aussies need to know you can't have it 2 ways. Moving a fielder 5 metres or helping your Captain make a good review.
Paine needs help and who better to help him than the former captain

Hope not as too many of them have done **** all this series. We wont make the runs I don't believe although it is similar to the 3rd test as its only day 4 and not to many demons in the pitch. The only demons are in the batsmens minds.
Well played again to you lot, especially Denly and Stokes.

Possible side to tour Sri Lanka

Burns
Sibley
Denly
Root
Pope
Stokes
Buttler
Foakes
S Curran
Archer
Leach
Broad
Anderson
Woakes
Ali
Bess
Stone/Wood

Picked 17, maybe they’ll only take 16 -3 spinners so Moeen back - is Bess the 3rd best in the country?
Obviously injury issues over Anderson & Oli Stone and/or Mark Wood.
