Most people would say Australia had the edge in this series and but for a miracle knock by Stokes they would have won the series but this last test showed what an advantage it was to bat first, what a ridiculous decision it was to bowl first but also what an advantage it is to win 4 tosses out out 5. When teams are close winning 4 tosses is one hell of an advantage, sometimes one you can throw away but a massive advantage nonetheless. No one really mentions it but it is a big advantage and if England had won the majority of tosses it could have been very different.

Superb series two pretty awful batting sides (except one bloke!) but two top bowling units, but Cummins and Hazlewood have been exceptional. Relentless throughout all 5 tests so fair play to them

Now the hurly-burly's done, it's still a major bugbear that Ashes distances are measured in years (ie just heard yet again, "No Aussie win over here in 18 years") Surely it should be measured in series because of the gaps in between when we invite our other Commonwealth friends over for a summer.

Fair enough. Well played England. We need to learn to bat sessions and then days but a positive result in the end.

We would have won at Lords if it wasn't for the weather. So, although the Aussies had the edge with one batter and a slightly better bowling attack, England should have the series 3-2

Won the world cup and a drawn ashes series is more than a decent summer for the cricket team.

On to the rugby I guess

Most enjoyable series. I think it's about right that the Aussies retained the urn without winning the series. England certainly didn't deserve to triumph, but probably just about deserved the draw. Root will have learnt a lot about the captaincy and hopefully the selectors will have learnt a bit - not least the difference between a one day player and test cricketer and the wisdom of picking players with a very recent injury issue. And, hopefully, Boycott will now be left at home, talking about himself to his bathroom mirror and reminiscing about giving women a bit of 'correction'. Bye, bye you old, and very boring, c*nt.

Pleased Smith got a genuine ovation today. All water under the range now and you and you can't help but marvel at his mind boggling genius.

Goodbye to DI Gower as well. No doubt to be replaced by another motormouth speaking lots but saying very little. As long as it isn't that Charles Dagnall twat.
