“ We also proudly show our support for the important Black Lives Matter movement. We would not be the club we are today without the contribution of outstanding black footballers, coaches and staff; we are proud to be a club that is open to all - on the pitch, in the stands and in our offices. We have a zero-tolerance policy on any form of racism. Very importantly we also recognise that we can do more to better reflect our diverse community and this is something that we will be working on in the coming months and years. ”

I just thought I would rub some more salt into your wound

Interesting stuff - I wonder if I accused those who proudly display the England flag in their bedroom window of likely being racist because of its NF/EDL type connotations you would argue that the flag has been appropriated by racists and that flying it is not an indication of racism?

Black Lives Matter as a mantra and Black Lives Matter the political organisation are not one and the same. But you know that already, don’t you?

You've kind of torpedoed your own argument there. Do you really think when the players take the knee they are doing so to show their support for a 'marxist' organisation? Obviously not from what you are saying, which means it's a simple anti-racism and equality message, so it's all good right. I mean, who could argue with that without actually being a racist?

Yup. Nothing there about how they 'demand police and capitalism to be abolished'. Perhaps the poster is talking about the argument around defunding the police, which is a very different thing.

Here is a quote from the UK site about defending the police...

Not everyone understands what ‘defunding the police’ actually means and are extremely alarmed on hearing it through the media. The public often mistakes defunding the police for either abolishment or taking away all funding from the police service; this is not what defunding the police means.

Whilst we feel there may be merit in diverting police funding to other services in the community who are in a far better position to understand and adequately support our youth, youth services, and mental health in the community, that said we do not hold any position on defunding the police without and until the wider sections of society understand what this all entails, so at this time we do not support defunding the police as a viable option.

Moving it on what is the action that needs to happen. I am very vocal that the Marxism the political aspect is not one that I support. However the BLM message is being taken on non politically which I am fully behind.
The players can really hammer that message home. I noticed that Exeter and Cambridge were booed before applause whilst taking the knee. If it is not to become just a gesture I suggest the next time or ground where it hapoens the players walk off. Comeback 15 minutes latter and try again if still met by booing the referee abandons the game. To be played at a latter date behind closed doors. Or if opposition fans without them in the ground.

Utter nonsense once again being spouted based on daily mailSun propaganda which of course denounces anything mildly left as ‘marxist’ .racism is structurally based is inevitably a political issue
The Met Police admit they are institutionally racist and apolitical decision must be made to change this. Teresa may wanted a hostile environment to curb immigration and presided over the shameful treatment of Windrush people
Stop and search is apolitical issue. Football needs a Rooney rule. BLM is to be encouraged and politicians pressured to end the disgraceful racism that blights Britain.

Absolutely Reps. Personally, I think diverting police spending to preventative measures such as youth services and mental health support is preferable. One of the (many) things that has annoyed me about the government's behaviour over the coronavirus pandemic is their sudden focus on the effects on mental health of a lockdown, when they've systematically underfunded and cut funding to mental health services for years.

WTF are you on man. How do you get from anti-racist social movement to considering them even remotely capable of establishing a revolutionary over throw of capitalism, and somehow becoming in charge of police funding. Yet, time and again, the same old deflection argument about racism comes up. But they're somehow a threat to Capitalism and Social Order... But hey, racist killing of black people, that's in no way been the trigger a) of BLM as a niche idea to a global international movement b) undermining social order and justice entirely.

They're not. You think all those supporters out on the streets protesting were part of some cadre of revolutionary Trotskists and Maoist Urban guerrillas... No, they're people really pissed off with Racism and Police Brutality.

But sure, lets talk about something utterly tangential rather than the elephant in the f**king room (solve the problem that isn't a problem, BLM rather than the one that is, Racist Policing).

Never mind you've clearly no idea what Defund the Police actually means.
