Mainly because he was great when I last saw him I popped down to Pete Doherty last night. Bor*d absolutely sh*tless by new material . Estevans support impressive though. Hoping for better things with Fat White Family tonight, fearful of slight direction change though.

I found the Doherty gig really enjoyable, and had relatively low expectations going into it. I didn't think much of the crowd though.
I thought the new songs sounded good, and I'm really enjoying the album.

Suede at Cambridge Corn Exchange last night. Still can't make my mind up whether Brett Anderson is a musical hero or an absolute nob-end.
They have some tunes, though. |

Going through the album now. Not sure what I think of it yet but I'll give it a couple of listens. Disappointed to see All at Sea on the album and some verses from Love reign o'er me. Both really good songs that I don't think needed to be revisited. Part of the charm of these old Doherty songs from back in the day were how rough the recordings were IMO.

But I think the point is that they've deserved a more official release. Plenty of bands reuse older songs they've written, but because they haven't so willingly thrown them out earlier in their careers no one is aware of them. It's not like the older stuff isn't still available.

Maybe I worded my first post badly. I should’ve said that I didn’t want the songs to be revisited, rather than I don’t think they need to be revisited. It’s a nostalgia thing for me. They are great songs. I felt similar when the Libs put You’re my Waterloo plus 4 old bonus tracks on the last album.

Nick Mason playing Saucerful of Secrets & other early Floyd stuff at Cambridge Corn Exchange last night.
I was surprised how much of that 40-year-old music sounded so contemporary. There were a few 'out there' offerings, mind. |

Me neither, but seeing as it was free with the pre order and local I thought why not.

Tess Parks at Dingwalls. band was surprisingly tight which made for an excellent evenings entertainment i am a sucker for fuzzed out and reverb guitars though and Tess herself whilst the vocals were a bit buried in the mix came across engagingly. Would recommend.
Dingwalls still a good little venue but £6 a pint FFS.

Joe Bonamassa at RAH last Thursday. Absolutely superb.
However tickets said 7.30....so I'm thinking the usual, support band on at about 7.45, short break to re-set stage etc and JB on at 8.30 - 8.45. No. Mrs and I rock up at 7.35 and he's already started! Anyone else had a similar experience?

Taking my wife and Daughter to their first outdoor gig today.Daughters in an electric wheelchair so hopefully will manage the terrain! Last few years started taking her to a few gigs at BIC.Today is (well started fri but only today for us)Teddyrocks which is a fundraiser for kids with cancer after a local lad passed away a few years back and has grown every year.
The headliners tonight are Zutons and before them Toploader which should hopefully be pretty good but had a quick look at youtube at some of the others earlier such as The Franklys who i hadn't heard of who look like they might be half decent. and just a few miles away here in Rural Dorset! |

Agree totally with that. A great night watching a Palace victory at the Enterprise then over the road to the Roundhouse. They were exceptionally good and made this old guy very happy!

Most people i know reference Mazzy Star. However her uptempo numbers don't come across as gloomy. So i would say yes she inhabits a similar musiverse to BJM however i don't see that as a negative.
