On this day ...... Feb 14th 1976. Chelsea 2 Crystal Palace 3.

On this day ...... Feb 14th 1976

Another year on .... 43 years ago ... where have the years gone??

No apologies for posting this one more time ......yes, it's that time of the year again ....

Forget Valentines day, I remember this date for one reason, and one reason only.

Stamford Bridge, FA Cup fifth round. Feb 14 1976.

Chelsea 2 Crystal Palace 3.

I was 15, my first exposure to football hooliganism first hand, and remember the whole day as if it was yesterday!!

From getting on the bus in the morning for the 2 hour journey, the intimidation queing to get in, Allison going to the Shed and doing "thumbs down, 3-0", going 2 nil up, horses on terraces, Peter Taylors winner, my Chelsea mates not waiting for me afterwards, the game on MOTD, coats for goalposts isnt it???

And for all you unluckly people who havent seen it yet ...

Just to be clear, Big Mal was making his prediction of 3 goals for Palace in front of the Chelsea supporters in their 'Shed' end.

Imagine Roy standing in front of the Milwall supporters when we meet them in this year's semi and doing the same.

One of my favourite days as a Palace fan and the day my long term hatred for Chelsea (and their fans) begun.

The picture on this thread is taken in front of the old North Stand at Chelsea, which was meant to be the away end, although a fair few Chelsea nobs were in there too, as we found out whilst Palace scored those three goals Big Mal predicted!

He did walk in front of the Shed end a bit earlier and did exactly the same gesture, you can imagine the reaction, plenty of boos and a few words of advice too from the great unwashed in blue and white scarves.

Got to be one of the proudest days still in watching Palace, we were a Third Division side, but were taking on some of the top clubs in the land and beating them - Leeds, Chelsea and Sunderland had all won the FA Cup within a few years previously of 1976 - and there we were, beating them all in front of their own fans, we didn't feel like a Third Division club, we felt like we were destined to be a top flight club and that is the sort of confidence and belief Big Mal put in the Palace players and fans at the time - a wonderful time to be a Palace supporter.

Marvelous day, I'd been off sick all week with the flu and missed school but managed to make a miraculous recovery for the game. Had seats in the stand next to the Shed end so saw all the terrace action from afar. What I cant get over is the size of the crowd, nearly 55,000 for a team from division two playing a team from division three. It would never happen today.

Wonderful wonderful memories of a very special period especially coming after some dark days, to then witness that amazing Cup run which i was proud to say i followed from the very start of that run until the brutes of Southampton "kicked" us out of the cup.
The euphoria and joy from those days is a memory for me that has been unequaled since.
