You talking about our top scorer three years on the trot?

How long has Steve M been rated a top keeper? Since he was 26 or younger?

Over the years we have had very few really top keepers - Alex will never be one of them and reportedly is costing us the best part of 2 million a year - sorry, potential is not good enough for that outlay

Pretty much every time he played he was shaky and made a gaff.

Hennessey was not as bad, although I would agree that he isn't the long term answer either.

Think a few people have been watching a different player.

Are people really suggesting we keep a 4th choice keeper on over 20k a week just in case he comes good?

Whats more hes 26, made several errors and done nothing in the past 2 seasons to show he might come good. Bizarre. If we can get half our money back we will do well.

He'll be our 2nd choice keeper. Hennessey will be gone and jules will be 3rd.

The same people slating McCarthy are probably those that slated jules after his mistakes when he first started with us. McCarthy is a good keeper, made some outstanding saves at start of season during our toughest run.. Made a couple of errors no worse than Hennessey (I'd argue Hennessey cost us more points against lesser opposition aswel).

Jules is a one off. Not many keepers will sit on the bench for three years and come back a different player. And its worth pointing out that he came good when we were a mid table championship team as opposed to an established Premier League one. We need a quality keeper (we now have one) and a very good one as backup (which we don't have). I cant see McCarthy making it here as either, and so we should look to bring someone else in his place.

I think people are slightly misguided as to the quality needed to be a back up keeper. Either Hennessey or McCarthy are worthy back ups. Sell whichever one will make us most money, keep the other
There wouldn't be many back up keepers better in the prem

And why is mccarthy not good enough? A miss kick against Liverpool?? A shot where he palmed against city? Really? Apart from that he made some cracking saves against some top teams.. Look who we played when he started.. He was very very busy and did well. Jules is a one off!? Give it a rest.. McCarthy is 26, young for a keeper, has a top top keeper in mandanda coming in he can learn from. McCarthy will be a PL keeper.

The old 'Speroni made early mistakes'. So yeah lets keep every player even if they look rubbish because you know they might turn out good.

Different ball game now. We are aiming for top half Premier League finishes now And we talking about a soon to be 27 year old on over 20k a week.

And the first sentence is just guesswork.

The howler at villa was far more horrendous.

AMs kick could have gone anywhere and got a bit unlucky that it happened to go where it did.

Rubbish?? I tell you what..... Look back at games he played and watch them then come back and comment. He isn't shit by any means..

And how much do you reckon the 'quality' back up you're taking about will cost a week and transfer fee?? And please name me some

He did ok in 1 or 2 games but was mostly poor and made errors. Hence why even Wayne Hennessey kept him out, despite Pardew signing McCarthy himself.

And errrm.... Hennessey and or Speroni are fine and better back ups. Both free as already play for us.

So McCarthy made what errors? Liverpool with a miskick and probably city at home..

Hennessey costs us points left right and centre but is adequate..

Come in he made more than that. Norwich on the opening day, Chelsea away and Spurs away. All errors leading to goals.
