He doesn't need it. He seems far less money orientated than many others. He seems to genuinely want a global tour along F1/ATP lines, with the very best players playing 18-20 tournaments in multiple countries. He has been pushing this for a long time.
Anyway, Rahm is the latest to come out after the ratings news: To view the link you have to Register or Login The fact the pontification from the LIV players completely ignores is that the very best of them have long term exemptions into the majors already... The Open - Stenson, Mickelson, Oosthuizen, Smith Lifetime The Masters - Reed, Mickelson, Rahm, DJ, Schwartzel, Watson, Garcia - Lifetime US PGA - Kopeka, Mickelson, Kaymer - Lifetime That's without the 5 year qualification from wins in other majors. In reality, the ones who are being "hurt" are the younger good quality non major winners like Hatton, Neiman (who LIV says is the best player in the world right now), Ancer, BdC (although he has got 5 years for most), Meronk, Periea. The reality is that they want to be paid for a bunch of hit and giggle limited field events rather than play tournaments against 120 of their peers and try and win the qualifying points to earn the right to be in a Major.

Had a nice bump and run from about 30 yards from the pin with a 9 iron today. Slightly up hill but had just enough legs on it to roll in the hole for birdie.
It was lovely out there and got away with wearing short sleeves. Spring is finally here

I pretty much stopped watching golf on TV since the Saudis came in and ****ed everything up. Will still watch the majors but that's it now.

Poor Clark. Tough one to take.

Definitely. Was rooting for Xander but to start the walk and fist pump twice and still see it not drop was really tough. Scheffler is mighty impressive but still needs to get out of the US more and win away from the PGA style courses to really cement himself as a world dominant player. Will be interesting to watch him at the Open.

Lots of sounds about the PGA and PIF coming out over the weekend. Notably a separation of PIF and LIV in terms of working together, continuing distaste for Norman, and seemingly no immediate welcome back for those who left.
Sounds like 2026 is the target for any route back for the players and any accommodation of team golf into the schedule. Looks like Woods is pivotal in all of this. One thought on Rory’s oft stated desire for a true world tour, and reflecting Scheffler being very US centric in his playing schedule, it would be interesting to see the reaction of the regular US pros to having to leave the safe haven of US courses more often.

Precisely. A possible outcome would be a PIF sponsored PGA/DPWT team event at some point of the season and LIV being disbanded in 2026 or thereabouts.

After watching the Ken Burns Baseball documentary recently, I can see now how some misled marketing/branding person could genuinely believe that team golf could work with stupid names like the Ironheads, Diablo Boyz, etc. You'll be surprised at how many baseball teams are not actually very old at all yet still drum up loyal support. And I suppose the same could be said for the MLS too.
But there are some fundamental differences. 1) Golf is not actually a team sport. 2) The new MLS teams still attach themselves to an area and have a home ground. The Ryder Cup works because it is infrequent and the players are representing their country/continent. No matter how much LIV try to make this team format work, it never will. Golf fans and casual fans don't care about the stupid name teams at all. |
