A more interesting poll might be whether Scottish independence is good for England.

I see Salmond has told everyone that you wont need a passport to get in and out of Scotland - I think he might find you will when needing to exit or enter England however.

Personally, I think we all work best on this island when we are united but if the Scots and Welsh wanted independence then good luck to them. Nevertheless, there would be much detailed discussions that would need to take place before it could happen. Pensions, oil, national debt, military ect would all have to be resolved and I would demand that England's interests be represented just as strongly as Scotland's. The English would need to approve the settlement that we would be expected to sign up to.

Good call, perhaps the English should vote to have their independance from Scotland (chuck Brown and his cronies, and millions of civil servants out)- that would be a bizzare twist of fate - imagine if Scotland voted No and England voted Yes !

Many of the major fields in the North Sea are now in decline. To counteract the rapid decline of mature fields, new but smaller fields are being brought on-line at an accelerated rate.

If Britain discovers the estimated 90 Billion+ barrels of oil in the Falkland islands, do you think that some Scots might reconsider Scottish independence?

If you don't see the relevance to Scottish Independence here, apart from the money gained by the British Treasury, then I'd remind finding oil in the North Sea did give a massive shot in the arm to Scottish Nationalists. Independence is as much a revenue debate as it is culture.

The majority of the oil in the NSCS is, due to the vagaries of international land law, not Scotland's, but England's.

Well said. My opinions exactly. They should all be allowed their referendum and if it leads to it their independence. So long as England is considered on an equal keel in terms of its interests. I'd be curious to see the results as well..

Ahh, but a simple yes or no might not be the outcome.

You might find that Scotland overall votes for independence, but a key urban area do not - Glasgow. Would they not therefore have the right to remain in the Union?

This is all part of the Quebec issue also, where by Montreal always votes to stay in Canada and could effectively seperate from Quebec if push came to shove.

Should just have a referendum with two options:

1. Abolish the Scotish Parliament and vote for MPs to represent them in Westminster like the rest of the UK have to.

2. Independence and then they can do what they want but no redistribution of wealth from England.

I'd be happy for them to go their own way if it meant less tax for me personally, otherwise not, but at the end of the day it's up them.
