Ah, Yes - I've tried but really don't get it. Each to their own.

One of my All Time favorite albums......Wish You Were Here....a musical masterpiece, and not far behind the classic Dark Side Of The Moon.

I think it very much depends what you've given a go. Some of it is what might be termed 'difficult'. However, there's also some pretty accessible material, and some astonishing playing.

You suggested “Soundchaser” so I gave it a go (on holiday with a bit of time on my hands). I must say on first listening it sounded like discordant tripe with its jazz type noodlings, sub-flamenco shredding and abrupt tempo changes. As a bit of “flash rock”, for me it just doesn’t compare to say “Supper’s Ready” - it seemed to be very cold with no “soul”. I would love to get into the music of Yes. Can you suggest a good place to start (The only Yes album I ever bought was Going for the One, which I like but don’t listen to very often).

To start with, I'd suggest a couple of more accessible tracks, though Going for the One is probably one of the most forgiving albums on the listener's ears. I'm not generally a Prog fan (never liked Genesis, ELP, Camel, Caravan etc), but like a bit of Crimson and Zappa. Yes just clicked with me from the start. |

Relayed is my favourite Yes album. The live versions of the Yes Album tracks on Yessongs are far superior to the studio efforts, barring the absence of Bruford on all but two songs.

I listened to my sister’s copy of DSOTM when I was about 14 but didn’t get past the first two songs purely because it wasn’t what I was expecting.
At Poly (aged 18, I guess) I borrowed the only Floyd album that was available from the music library - The Final Cut. Unsurprisingly, that didn’t work for me either. Some time later, I’m guessing late 20s, I listened to Wish You Were Here. It was finally the right album at the right time. It’s still my favourite Floyd album although I also love DSOTM, Animals & Meddle. |

I'm far more a Gilmour fan than a Waters fan but for some reason The Final Cut takes me to a place none of the other albums do.
The majority of their albums are outstanding IMO, but TFC is #1. |

I went out and bought the album (probably my first non Motown record!), and only really played the Echoes track (side B). I never really got into side A much. Never quite got the "You'll Never Walk Alone" at the end of Fearless. |

It's Roger Waters' best solo album.

Thank God for threads like these, where everyone can put forward their own views & differing opinions without arguments, abuse or being told that they're pant-wetters/not a real fan etc.

Indeed. I think the music forum is my favourite. The most civilised, and you get so many tips on stuff worth listening to.
