VAR officials
Apparently going to be wearing full referee kit according to Collina, because they sweat. What a load of codswallop!

Including boots I hope?! Pretty nuts, fair enough probably beneficial to be wearing some sort of official uniform, but full kit is weird.
Though what is possibly more interesting/worrying is that they're instructing the linemen not to flag for tight offside calls and let VAR handle it, not sure whether that's the best plan but suppose depends on how it works in practice. |

This happened with Son for Spurs vs Rochdale. He scored, he was only just offside in the end but it went to VAR. Had the goal had been given, it was obvious the goalie hadn't tried to save it so there would have been controversy. Everyone says play to the whistle but they don't, so this should ensure they do. Although you'd expect a few 'aw but I wasn't playing!' type goals before it sinks in.

Could do away with the need for a linesman altogether. The odd contentious throw in or goal kick/corner can easily be assessed by the VAR officials.

The commentator after the Iceland game: "has this been a bad game for VAR?"
VAR can **** off and die.

If they judge the one in the first game to be a pen how can the one in the second game, a far more clear and obvious error, not be?

The whole VAR system is absolutely screwing the flow of the game.
People don't seem to get that refereeing decisions are about humans interpreting rules based on what they see. And the whole thing about a 'clear error' is about humans interpreting what that means. That doesn't change when someone's looking at a screen in slow motion. It just slows up the whole thing, means the referee's decision is not final, and creates all number of anticlimactic goals where everyone has to wait 30 seconds before they celebrate.

If it isn't even going to result in correct calls what exactly is the point. Scrap it.

In the Australia game we didn't see the referee look at the close up angle that was shown later on and suggested the defender touched the ball. Maybe still a pen but at least watch all the footage.
Fail to see how the Iceland one wasn't even reviewed. If referees are going to refuse to look at something because they're convinced they got it right then what's the point? This would be true of all refereeing cockups. |

Isn't it bollox.
Goal line technology is great but they should give VAR up.

As long as players try to con the referee, VAR is relevant.
That said, two wrongs don't make a right.

I'm against any decision technology in football, because it can't be utilised at all levels of the game. It's a beautiful sport, because of its simplicity. Any more of this guff, and we'll be heading towards a two code sport.
