Last time I properly enjoyed a World Cup I had a full head of hair.
I think a major factor is how many games you actually get to watch, which, depending on work, can seriously limit how involved you are. This time I've managed to watch two a day, so have thoroughly enjoyed it. Russia, so far have done themselves proud - does this mean they are not actually all evil? |

Incredible sering how much racism there is in the grounds normally and how their hooligans were well out of control 2 years ago ( seemingly with minister endorsement IIRC )

Everyones having a party there, as anyone with half a brain knew they would have. Only the feckwits in england who believed all the propaganda and stayed at home are missing out. Still, at least they can retain their wildly inaccurate prejudices and mistaken beliefs while the rest of the world enjoys themselves in a free country.

I’m enjoying it, but I’m also starting to question a World Cup that has the likes of Panama in it, and yet no Italy or Holland. I’d prefer a World Cup with the best teams in the world rather than one that fulfils a diversity quota.

By that do you mean less spots for Concacaf teams? They are poor/boring outside of Mexico to be fair.

Watched much less than expected.
VAR doesn't help, it's as if it's been introduced to add spice to the TV coverage. And there have been too many one-sided matches and a blind eye turned to the piss poor behaviour of some of the lesser countries. What with Qatar next and then a 48 country competition it'll become a feast for betting and TV companies. Roll on the real football season. |

Probably the best major tournament I have watched. Refreshing.

Has to be said that Russia has put on a good show. The stadium England played in last was beautiful with all the glassware above the stands. Made me wish we could have a stadium like that, especially with our name. The games have been, as everyone has said, very watchable with minimal tactical negativity.

I think the staging/infrastructure/coverage has all been pretty faultless so far, which is an achievement in itself.

We've all seen the wrestling that goes on in the penalty box and almost never has a penalty been awarded. And what we've all seen is the large number of players waving for VAR to intimidate the ref. It's another gimmick from FIFA, just like the 48 country tournament. And in this case it's nothing to do with the country. |

I think this world cup is good because of the world trend of attacking football. Nobody [apart from iceland maybe] are just sticking 10 men behind the ball. South africa was dull because of the 2 defensive midfielder and lone striker defensive dullfest going on at the time.
Teams like morocco and peru can go home with their heads held high as they gave it a go and entertained.Rather than go home having nearly got a 0.0 with a favourite. The best coaches IE guardiola klopp etc are attack minded ,We'll score more than you is replacing the grindout a 1.0 philosophy of mourinho n co. Long may it continue .

This World Cup
Good world cup so far and the “smaller” teams are fighting but it is notable that with the odd exception it will be the usual offenders who qualify for the knock out stages. Shame as I thought Iran could have done it but just came up short.

Best world cup in my memory (I'm talking from 98 onwards). Loads of entertaining matches, a bit of chaos with the VAR, England playing some nice football with the most likeable squad in ages and no clear favourite to win at all. I also like the bbs betting league even though I'm last at the moment.

It would appear that the threat of 20 or so cage fighters in matching t-shirts wearing bumbags & terrible shorts has put the engerland fans who act like complete dicks off from going. If only Europe had sussed that out ages ago, think of the garden furniture that could have been saved over the years. Here's hoping Russia qualify for every major tournament from now on to keep the bottle throwing, local insulting, engerland bully boy mob away.

Few mates of mine went to France and told me in no uncertain terms to not bother with this World Cup unless I wanted to come back with a black eye at best. Gutted doesn't come close, wish I'd gone.

So far this has been a great Tournament. Alot of exciting games and some surprise results.
Only downsides are The ridiculous amount of play acting/injury feigning which is frankly just an embarrassment to the game. The harrassment of referees. Eg last night Argentina when the pen was awarded. I just wish one referee would get his yellow card out and book any player who gets in his face. There could have been 4 or 5 Argentinian players booked including Mascherano (who then have had to walk as he was booked for the foul). They should also be booked for doing the TV sign to the ref. I can only assume FIFA does not care about all this otherwise they would have issued an edict to the refs before the Tournament. This is sad for the game and just encourages kids to follow suit.
