Even in such a great World Cup I think that cheating shitc*nt Neymar and the overrated Brazil getting knocked out early than last time is possibly the best part so far

There's no denying that Russian football has a large pool of thugs/hooligans capable and likely very willing to perpetrate violence against rival nation's fans. There is plenty of documented evidence of this. That's obviously not to say that all Russians are violent thugs or whatever it is you're worried about, however the fact that there have been no incidents by this criminal element clearly points to very strong deterrents being in place beforehand.

However many it’s not like the English hooligans, who were many more, have put anyone off watching football in this country. If there was a World Cup here, would you expect people to be scared to come and see their team? Should they?

This football hating xenophobic government and its cold war establishment and bent media may have deprived thousands of English fans of their only chance in their lifetime to see England lift the World Cup in the flesh in a great country. I think that's sad, don't you? And if you don't, you should do. 30 other countries travelled in massive numbers to support their countries. Still, maybe one day you'll trust others with experience instead of believing propaganda gullibly. HTH.

England sold the tenth highest number of tickets for the tournament. It's normally 5th or 6th in sales. The difference with tournaments in France or Germany is less numbers of casual fans attending, which to be honest, isn't a bad thing. I contemplated going for a few days but the cost of the flights then internal travel just seems too much cost and effort.

COPA 2018

(The dream of the hexachampionship delayed, Belgium eliminate Brazil, with great performances from Lukaku, Fellaini, de Bruyne and Hazard, and arrive at the semi-final for the first time since 1986).

(Board members of the Brazilian Confederation of Football -CBF say that Tite will remain manager of the national team, despite the elimination. A shaken/depressed Gabriel Jesus, laments a cup without goals - "They've taken a piece of me away". He becomes the first Brazilian centre-forward [striker] since 1974 to not score in the world cup).

(Belgium manager says that he tactically surprised Tite - [Tite is being criticized for using the same failed set-up that he used in the friendly v's Inglaterra].
Gabriel Jesus is inferior to Firmino even in marking [interesting, because Firmino, like Diego Costa is from the impoverished north-east of Brazil, and Jesus, like Neymar, is a 'favourite son' born and bred in Sao Paulo, and there is usually a bit of regional rivalry].
Tostao says, Brazil lacks a player like de Bruyne, [he probably really means 'a player like me']).

CLARIN (Buenos Aires)

Needless to say, the Brazilian press were not impressed with 'Clarin''s take on the elimination !
