As a Scot I agree we are a laughing stock.. we are shite.. but it’s widely accepted.

It would be great to give them a different year to whinge about, I must be honest.

If you’ve ever been to an England v Scotland match, especially the ones before the old Home Internationals ended, you will get the level of hatred and loathing for all things English.

I had an uncle that went to the earliest England v Scotland games played at Wembley in the 1920’s and he told me it was the same then, although he had a very good Scots pal and it seems there is a deep feeling of resentment over history and politics that obviously goes back hundreds of years.

On a personal observation, look back to clips of the 1966 World Cup and all subsequent England internationals, right up to the late 1980’s and you will always see many Union Flags in the crowd, in fact they used to be more prominent than the St George’s flag - I know the rivalry between England and Scotland was much stronger say 30 years ago (mainly because the Scots usually put up a decent team pre 1990s) - but the feeling of being English rather than British is a more recent phenomenon, perhaps there are not so many people left from the days when ‘Britain’ actually meant something more than an collective Olympic or Rugby Union team?

There are a couple of knobs on our estate, but their problem isn't race related; their problem is that they are knobs.

Yes, your general knobs are more knobs about everything than specifically just hating the English. Whereabouts do you live?

Unfortunately, the Shearer shitbag was pretty successful for England so will continue to rubbish Wilf and us next season.

Had a slightly strange conversation with a Scottish lad at a gig in Hyde Park yesterday. I was wearing an England shirt and he said something like, 'looks like you bastards might actually do it this year'. Less of the bastards please, but he was trying to be friendly.

There's a Scottish bloke in the pub who is threatening to punch the next person who says, 'its coming home'. But, again, it's all in good humour.

I was at Wembley in 1977 for the infamous England v Scotland match, which ended with the pitch invasion and the breaking of the crossbar.

I was only young, my first visit to Wembley and the guest of relatives. I’d say that over half the crowd were Scottish and a large percentage of them were very ‘merry’ before kick-off. One of my abiding memories was our shock at seeing so many of them passed out on the grass inside the perimeter, having already gone through the ticket barrier. So they’d travelled to Wembley with tickets, but were unlikely to see the match due to their inebriated state!

But most of what we witnessed was very good humoured....very much about trying to cheer Scotland on and then to celebrate. We didn’t feel under threat, although I do remember feeling a bit concerned that we were in a minority should matters escalate outside.

Despite how it looked on TV, I’ve been in much more intimidating football crowds than that once since.

It's odd that wanker idiots keep perpetuating this myth. No wonder that some of the boozed-up methadone-saturated scotch loathe the Ing-er-lish so much.

After the Sweden match, I fired off a gloating celebratory text to one of my staunchly patriotic Scottish pals and he replied,

‘Croatia will do yous and do us all a favour..coodny live wi aw that 1966 chat again..cam on ye croats’

I remember seeing a group of kilted Scotland supporters kipping on the benches at Penge East at 7.30am the morning after that match.
