You don't need huge amounts of pace to score goals.

Who said you do? I didn't. I was responding to a comment that Murray has more pace than Wickham

Hmm, you say that, but the refs have also seen the serial assassin at West Brom, but he still gets away with it time after time.

Austin would be fantastic with Sako and Bolasie either side of him
That'll come in time.

People forget that not everyone starts out as a prolific goal scorer. Andy Johnson got 8 goals in 83 games at Birmingham, and Diego Costa scored 27 in 119 games at the start of his career.

I like the look of Wickham, he led the line very well creating space for the first goal. If he can knock in a few too we will have ourselves a very good player.

I think Wickham will be a good buy as well but what he needs to learn from Glenn is not goal scoring but hold up play. Doesn't win enough headers and doesn't do enough to relieve pressure. His movement off the ball is excellent and he is dragging defenders about when we have possession but I want to see him winning possession too.

What? Did you watch the Chelsea game? His hold up play was excellent all game.

Agree that he needs to mature into the position but if Glenn is to do the teaching we need the Glenn of last year not this. Not sure he won any headers at Norwich did he?

It should have read 27 in 119 for Diego Costa, but I know you get the point.

Far too many have been too quick to rubbish new players. Look at MacCarthy in his few games. He got slagged off for mistakes that weren't even his. If Murray had done what Wickham did for the first goal there would have been pages of discussion about it.

I remember Wilf speaking recently about Murray, that he was impressed that Murray always managed to time his runs into the box despite Wilf often delaying his cross, kind of like Murray had a telepathic understanding of what Wilf or Bolasie was going to do even if they themselves did not.

Wickham has just switched teams and just switched positions, to score he's got to learn to time those runs like Murray and it's going to take time for him to adjust and reach his full potential. But he's only 22 and shown so far that he has every chance of developing his scoring instinct.

I suspect we'll see the best from Wickham in the second half of the season.

I think it will turn out that we've got a bit of a hidden gem in Wickham that will be realised in the second half of the season.

The point is he didn't do it often enough when he was at Sunderland.

I wonder if you would have bought Gomis last season when we were in for him.

Poor record for the Swans back then...

I've watched it more than once. He is fine when the ball comes to feet but didn't win a header for about half an hour. Compare with Gomis in the game last night who was winning balls in the air and maintaining possession. As i said I think he is a good signing but for someone so physical he should be doing better with his head and chest.

Was Wickham injured in training today?

Few reports saying that's why we pulled the plug on Gayle deal
