First album was excellent after that not so much. Games Without Frontiers is very good, but Sledgehammer and Don't Give Up grind my gears.

You are almost as bad as Wanksock. Don't Give Up is a smashing song (I would love to know what it would have sounded like if Dolly Parton had sung the Kate Bush part as originally intended).

And people like John Martyn, Robert Plant and Robert Fripp were happy to have him drumming for them.

Saw him at Wembley in 2004, what a show. One of the best gigs I've been to.

I'm not sure though that dressing in that gorilla costume was his best moment.

and as for PG... I listen to his Genesis era stuff almost daily.

I mentioned this track (which was a B side, the recorded version is 7:50 minutes! Fo a B side! ) on another thread not that long ago:

Live from a Belgian TV show in 1973

Started drumming for him as a return favour after Eno added some effects for 'The Lamb Lies down on Broadway' Genesis album whilst they were at the same studios together.

Fripp played on early Gabriel albums but refused to go on stage for the live concerts and played under the pseudonym 'Dusty Rhodes' just off stage!

Classic! I always like the comments of these old clips by people who have only heard the later Collins stuff!

Classic line up won't happen again but seeing the Musical Box in Basingstoke in October followed a week later by Hackett at the London palladium...happy days

Slightly tangentially, the reason why I am agnostic rather than an atheist, is because Prince is dead, but Phil Collins has a terminal illness.

Hackett did some listenable stuff with Chris Squire not too long ago. Never a Genesis fan, barring a few tracks, but thought Hackett leaving was the end of them really. They always struggled to get beyond their schoolboy spats. Later documentaries, when they all sat down in the studio to talk, always seemed very tense repressed affairs.

Was that the one where Hackett was almost entirely edited out?
Think that caused some embarrassment with the rest of the band. It was as if he had no influence on the shape of their music.
He was very instrumental in their direction, and at the forefront of their creativity.
At least Hackett continues to hold the banner of early Genesis.
His band are at the Royal Festival Hall & the Palladium next month with Orchestra. Genesis revisited - as it should be
