Why wouldn't he though? If he's not topping up the 20% then I agree with him being a ****

£750 million as it stands, The PL will order all games to be played behind closed doors in May or June I reckon, 3 a week to get the season done and keep the clubs afloat

Because they are in a £multimillion industry

Why are they using tax payers money when they have the resources to cover it themselves?

Absolutely this, this is why no major leagues will be voided, because there are far too many issues with voiding. All TV, sponsorship and prize money gets taken away and most clubs in top leagues rely on TV money to survive, especially in England, outside the big 6.

Don't forget to add on the £100m + per club in lost revenue that clubs either being denied promotion to the Premier or being relegated before the season "ends" would sue the FA for would mean that approx £1bn is at stake if they don't finish the season.

I really can't see that happening

The only issue with finishing the season at a later date is contracts expiring.I'm sure there is a solution to this that is better than not finishing the season. We are already starting to see how much of a disaster voiding the season is from the National League and below. So many clubs had a huge amount on the line and it all gets wiped. With the amount of money on the line further up it is not even a feasible solution. And other than contracts, the season ending on a specific date is completely arbitrary. You could have a season last 3 years without any issues if that was how the system is set up.If there is a knock on effect for "next season" just don't have a "next season" until summer 2021.It's not the end of the world a season lasting 2 years.

Out of interest, how does this work for clubs in (for example) league 2 who rely on gate receipts to stay financially viable?

Only with government agreement as well as that of players and officials.

Even a behind closed doors televised match will mean a significant number of people in a stadium. Players, coaches, officials, TV media people.

22 players and 4 officials, plus substitutes, medical and first aid staff, in a smallish area, difficult for FA to only allow players and officials to take part who have had the virus ? If the current lock down situation does last until September perhaps with some small relaxations even playing matches behind closed doors will be difficult.

In addition what happens if a match is played and a few days later a player or official tests positive for the virus ? games will in all likelihood be stopped again. This would cause even more chaos.

How do you also police games outside stadiums. How are you going to prevent supporters crowding outside? The police have enough on their plates at present.

Players and officials may well refuse to take part as they risk taking the virus home to their families, something many may not prepared to do.

The only way forward is to cancel the season and prepare to resume again as soon as its safe to for players officials, coaches etc and most importantly fans alike.

We could easily have just a month between the end of the current season and the start of the new. It's not like the players haven't had a winter break and a virus lay off already to prevent fatigue injuries.

We could also conduct a late-starting football season in a compacted format, with more midweek games, ( and it wouldn't need that many to catch up ) especially if we gave clubs a special dispensation to expand squad size for one season.

Exactly when we start or end doesn't need to be cast in stone. It's always been relatively arbitrary, anyway.

If we agree to put back the start of the Euros 2021 a month beyond the normal summer duration window, we would have brought ourselves sufficient room over the next sixteen months to play out a final ten games then play another thirty eight. It's hardly impossible.

That's if we don't promote three and relegate five this season ( which I'm sure all Palace fans would support without any partizan motivations! ) as a final measure. I'd love that but, TBF, it just isn't required. There is absolutely nothing here that cannot be worked around and plenty of economic / legal incentive for something to be worked out.
