One quote clearly describes his mindset when he says that not performing well will hinder his progress. Which I am taking to mean that if he doesn't perform at his best then the 'big' clubs will lose interest.

Good news for us until January, but I still think he wants to leave, but at least we should get a top performing Wilf until he goes.....

There is no doubt that Wilf is playing a restricted role for the good of the team, and doing so very well.

For those questioning his value and price he is streets ahead of the two big signings in a similar role; Pulisic at Chelsea and Pepe at Arsenal

On the cheaper level has Sarr done anything for Watford?

Saint Maximim (spelling) though has shown bursts of unpredictable creativity at Newcastle (18 mill seems a good price too)

I quite like the look of Adama Traoré and although he's a bit unpredictable and a bit of a loose cannon, he's only 23 and plenty of years to be trained. Sadly, I think that ship has sailed and gone past our port.

Spot on.

I've been impressed with how he has responded this season. He has his moments still of course, but he's knuckled down and performed for the team. Long may it continue, though I suspect it will be over soon sadly.

He’s more of a Yala than a Wilf in reality, but I like the idea of him and Andros on the wings.

I think in recent games, Wilf's decision making has been at it's highest level...arguably the final pierce of the jigsaw, to take him to the next level

Seems to me that he has been making the kind of decisions that a top-6 club would be looking for - passing the ball to another player rather than taking on his man and risk losing the ball. But my concern is that in doing so he is losing the maverick approach which has made him so effective. There are times when I would like to see him be more greedy and take players on.

I love Wilf but he not only doesn’t score enough he doesn’t shoot enough. He is an unbelievable dribbler but strangely does not strike a ball particularly cleanly (unless he absolutely leathers it but this probably less than 1 in 20). Any other player with his dribbling ability would use it to create a yard of space around the edge of the box and bang it in the corner of the net. It’s a strange one but its one part of his game that seems beyond coaching and may hold him back from a next level move. Hope I’m wrong though.

Wouldn't totally surprise me. As I said towards the end of the window his age and contract length probably meant he was peak value last summer. I think his value could possibly have dropped by summer 2020 as well as the demand for him.

I do not think there has been much demand for him anyway, so it cannot not drop much. The asking price has to drop for any bids to come in and even more if he doesn't start scoring for us.

You're right to point out he's been given greater defensive responsibility but if he's not a proven goalscorer he's likely to be given a similar position if he does ever make it to a Champions' League club. It's not like he's playing full-back.

The best players are able to score and create goals from the wing and track runners. Wilf is fast enough and has a quick enough brain to do this, but he's never quite managed it. Against West Ham, he put in for my money the most dilligent defensive performance I've seen from him in years, but still had chances going forward. The one thing he still needs to work on after all these years is runs inside - for Ward's cross early on he was in a better position than Ayew to gamble for the cross and what would have been a tap-in but he hung back.

So yes, If we gave him that free role like last season he'd have more opportunities going forward, but a top player shouldn't have to have that many opportunities. 10 goals, five assists and a bunch of penalties won last season was a good turnout, but in 3,000 minutes as the main attacking outlet, a top side would either want more than that or for the player to add something defensively.

For us, we have so few genuinely dangerous attacking options that either way can work, but I can see how Roy would sell Wilf the extra defensive duities on the grounds he'd be likely to have to perform them wherever he wants to be sold to.

'Linked' is a meaningless term. There wasn't much real interest to begin with.

Not at the price being quoted. Or anywhere close. Other clubs just simply don't see the value in it for them.

I do agree with all your points here. And it might be that he is everything he appears to be, but I quite hope there is more about him, short tempered or otherwise. I think a lot of folk don't come across fantastically well on camera and I'm hoping he's another case in point.

RE the article, good news I think, possibly. But I don't want him resenting us at the same time if no one comes in for him. At the end of the day I'd hope he is sincere in his view if he's not performed well enough, he's not going to be valued high by any potential buyers anyway. And that means he was always unlikely to get first team football elsewhere.

This ^^^^ think I posted after villa game that he’s playing with a maturity now
Biggest sign for me that he’s back in the game for us is 1: that big burst of pace first half v West Ham that’s the old wilf . 2: looking to do his defensive duties. 3: body language. All getting better game by game.
