What this all says to me is that when we had Bolasie and Wilf, we needed a player to come in and push them. So, Townsend, able to play both sides was signed and it was perfect.

Then Bolasie was sold. Despite Pardew saying before Bolasie left that any player leaving would have to be replaced, Bolasie was not replaced (and Pardew made it clear Townsend was not his replacement). So, without Bolasie being replaced Townsend has had to play on the left and he's stated a preference to play on the right to the manager

It's basically the result of the club not replacing a player who has left, we've been left with still a lack of winger competition and now the manager has taken to publicly moan about a player. Not one person does this reflect well on.

He was asked in a press conference what do you want him to do say AT is sh*te and was dropped for his naff all performances since he went off with England?

There's many excuses a manager can use other than saying he threw a strop because he wants to play in Wilf'a position

Yeah, this thread is another weird one. Townsend probably crosses better with his right foot than most players do on their better foot.

Pardew didn't say Townsend had taken his bat home, he just said that AT had said to him that he would get more out of him on the right side. Hardly throwing a paddy is it and probably true. Bolasie preferred to play on the right too.

The conspiracy theories seem to have gone crazy too. We bought an England International for 12m. WTF is there to be upset about. I would save the moans for Xmas because by then we will have had a tough run of fixtures that are going to have made points really difficult and we will almost certainly look in trouble. If we are not, then things should be in good shape but I don't expect that right now.

This is why I have not been cuming in my pants, like some over this past transfer window as it appears to me we spent x amount of money on 3 players, rather than use the money wisely to buy players that fit into our team and make us better. Benteke has looked good, but he is no good without service. Townsend really hasn't shown anything in the 10 games he has played and Tomkins? we will leave that one alone. I didn't understand this past transfer window at all. We seemed to start well, but then everything went out the window as the club pursued Benteke and by the time he was signed the window was shut. The BBS is full of want to be managers, but if us lot can see the need for creative midfield player and a lb, yet no one else at the club can, that is really worrying.
One advantage is that if this form continues and Palace go down, then I can cancel my cable tv service and save a 100 a month

For a player who's just been signed, is a regular player in the squad, is on s, and got called up to the England squad, it is ridiculous that he's kicking up a fuss (if any of this is true). He's only been here 5 minutes, and hasn't been as good as Wilf- why he thinks he should take his place is beyond me.

Rather Townsend play on the right we can be very predictable with every attack having to end up with a cross in the box. Townsend can also cross well on his right foot too.

We have competition in sako but for whatever reason he is nowhere near the first team. On huge wages so pretty scandalous. I would question both management and player.

Shouldn't be an issue really, the wide men should be swapping sides (albeit not constantly) during games to keep defences on their toes, depending on what is working.

He's been hugely disappointing though in honesty.

The balance of the whole team is wrong,Ledley is shot to bits..McArthur is a box to box midfielder now so he and caybaye should be in the middle then id have a three of punch,Townsend and zaha rotating behind bentekie the main problem we have is our full backs are not attacking full backs I like both as defenders but we will never play how pardew keeps harping on about until we sign two speedy attacking full backs...then we can start turning teams round were so slow and predictable...fryers is worth a go now...as people on here love going on about an ex player or two...throw in a cole and Boyce in to this team and we would be talking...thats the sort of full backs we could do with now..obviously on there day...

Good post.

Agree with others saying its unprofessional of Andros really, he may well have been told he could play on the right when he signed, but his performances haven't warranted that. Also, he should be playing for the team, not himself - and he is needed on the left - we need crosses from there and he is the man to provide, nevermind where he likes to shoot from.

This is, of course, if Pardew's report is true.

I wonder if the request is due to England? Perhaps Andros sees his chance of making the England squad as better if he is on the right. Isn't Lingard a cert for the Left? Also, if Wilf is better at club level, surely at some point England will realise he'd be better for England too ...

I'd fancy my chances of a getting a place over Jesse Lingard than Raheem Sterling.

I think he's been good for us. That performance against Stoke and some of his moments in other matches have shown us what he is capable of. The media are blowing it out of proportion saying "the grass isn't greener", and "he's been pardewed" I think he's shown promise.

Ideally we could have both Andros and Wilf alternating wings depending on opposition weeknesses as they both play different styles.

I took APs comments more as a positive reflection of Wilf's recent performances than Andros' petulance etc. Pardew has been slated for digging Wilf out etc and not giving him credit where it is due and he seemed to clearly point out that Wilf has been terrific recently and he had a tough call to make and sided with Wilf.

Townsend seems pretty level headed to me and I have no doubt he'll get a chance on the right hand side soon. If some praise for Wilf can settle his mind and get him towards signing a new contract and cutting the Spurs speculation down at the stem then it'll have ended well.

Fair point. Should have said Sterling. Moment of amazing forgetfulness there.
