Dele Alli?

I doubt Maja would get much game time here but if he went on loan to a Championship club and banged in a few he could be a shrewd bit of business. Looks like he's off to France though.

Zaha was hardly scouting was it? Tomkins was already a regular, known prem player as were Danns and PVA. Although Townsend has scored well the last few weeks he would only increase by inflation, he wasn't like any of thse suggestions up and coming blokes that we have nurtured into better players. Probably Ward was the last up and coming player we got in reality
Milivojevic and Meyer.

Whenever you buy a player from the lower leagues it should be with the intention of building for the future, and that is what Maja would have offered. But yet again we have to "move on" as we have missed the boat, oh well it's Palace and we fans have become used to it.

Were we definitely in for him? Are you ITK?

Roy Hodgson said he had never heard of him and then there were some rumours.

Please can you give some detail? Are the club upset? How big is the boat we missed? Will Roy resign?

Only that he had been watched several times so i would assume we were interested, Roy simply playing cagey. But hey this is Palace, and we know tend to drag our feet when it comes to transfers

This is true, although I think we may have fouled up particularly badly here. We are crying out for a striker, and with the up front fee apparently being about 1.8 million, the risk here was extremely low relative to the upside potential.

Unless we've looked at him and decided he has no realistic prospect of ever being a top flight player (which is of course possible), the case for taking a chance on this one seemed about as convincing as you'll ever find when signing a prospect. The fact that we haven't done so says much about our approach to trying to develop young talent, and none of it is good imho.

What future would that be? A future in the lower league. Buying young players is always a risk and an even bigger risk if there is no experience in the league they are going to play in. Is this player really any better than what we currently have at the club. If Soloth had joined a lge1 team instead of us I wonder how well he would be doing now.

But surely one additional complication would be the tribunal issue? Sunderland chose to sell now to Bordeaux as he was planning to sign a pre contract there and they would have got very low compensation as he was going abroad? An English club would have had to play much more to get him now I suspect as bigger compensation would have kicked in if he left on a free.

He came with champions league games and germany caps behind him and from what I have seen isn't if we are being realistic, pulling up any trees and as I said I'm not convinced he will turn out to be the player he apparently was or anywhere near the next PelemeetsMaradona BBSers seem to think he will be. I do so really hope I'm wrong but our last transfer IMHO put us back as we regressed from the midfield we had previously.

At the moment based on performances to date and the inability to get in our very average team it makes perfect sense but I'd absolutely love to be totally wrong and for him to be the creative defence splitting midfielder we so badly need.

Does hat help you understand?

Nobody is suggesting we build our team around youth, i certainly have never suggested that as it has got to be a balance of experience with Youth coming through. I had previously mentioned we should sign Maja and view it as a signing for the future, but along with bringing in Tosun initially on loan to play with Benteke now. Is he better that what we currently have? nobody can answer that now but at 20 yrs old and already scoring 16 goals in HALF a season is some achievement and would only improve? but he is one for the future and that is a direction we must also follow. But never forgetting performing today is even more vital, what i was suggested gave us both options.

If true that it is possible the deal to Palace fouled up due to the upfront fee of 1.8m, then that is disgraceful state of affairs for a premiership club. But as you say we may have had doubts about him adapting to premiership football, only time will tell. But to confound matters we then go and resign a player Sako, someone we as good as ignored as not being good enough most of the time when here previously, baffling.
